A minister of students, the 47-year-old from Centerville arrested for solicitation of a minor was listed as the youth pastor on the Fairfield Baptist Church website.

"It's a big concern. This guy is dealing with our juveniles every day or every Sunday."

Lt. Whitwell says it's disheartening, as Brewer is also a military official.

"It's a blemish on our armed services. He's a trusted person within the community and he goes and betrays the trust of his community and here locally in Middle Tennessee."

Brewer is one of 18 men Whitwell says were intentionally seeking out sexual activity from a 16-year-old girl in Spring Hill. Lt. Whitwell says the ads were posted online on websites one would have to seek out. The suspects went to meet an underage teen at a local hotel, but instead an undercover officer was inside.

Thirteen were arrested for patronizing prostitution from a minor...

Except they weren't. How do you get charged with a crime against someone who doesn't exist?

Same way the ones that were charged after "To Catch A Predator" I guess...unless of course you think they just walk away when the camera shuts off.

You're getting this from the news so "soliciting a minor" sounds better when the "attempted" is left out.

Intent matters if they can prove he went there to have sex with a minor.

But being a minister and all, I'm sure he was just there to save the minor's immortal soul from the temptation of the flesh. Yeah...That's the ticket.

I see what you are saying, but the courts say he thought it was a minor and that's enough.

I'm all for giving molesters their due, but this just smacks of entrapment for thought crimes.

Is this why the Tennessee Twitter handle is so valuable?

That's because it is entrapment.

The right wing fabricated the ritual satanic abuse scare in the early 80s, the Supreme Court fell for it, and they decided that entrapment is legal to combat certain crimes.

#7 | Posted by snoofy at 2021-07-20 04:20 PM | Reply

This isn't entrapment, it is attempted statutory rape. They sought out an under age girl and when to meet them for sex.

Fry them.

The intended rape victim.

If I hire a hitman to kill someone, but the hitman turns out to be a cop who arrests me, am I innocent? No murder happened.

"If I hire a hitman to kill someone, but the hitman turns out to be a cop who arrests me, am I innocent?"

Let's say you hired a hitman to kill Ebenezer Scrooge.

What crime did you commit?

The intended rape victim... doesn't exist.

How do you explain hooker stings when the "hooker" is a cop?

#14 | Posted by LegallyYourDead at 2021-07-20 09:39 PM | Reply

I explain it like this:
The john solicited sex.

#15 | Posted by snoofy at 2021-07-20 10:04 PM | Reply

Right. And this case, they solicited sex from an underage person ... .. who happened to be an adult cop.

So let's say your daughter is 13. someone starts sending her d1ck pix and asking to meet her ... . But it's actually you they are pinging ... . Does that mean they weren't actually trying to have sex with a minor because you answered every text and received every pic they sent unsolicited?

What a naive way to go through life.

#16 | Posted by ABH at 2021-07-21 08:10 AM | Reply

"an underage person ... .. who happened to be an adult cop."

You can't be an underage person and an adult person.

This is simply not possible.

He was arrested for solicitation of a minor, but he did not solicit a minor. He solicited an adult.

This couldn't be more clear.

#17 | Posted by snoofy at 2021-07-21 08:17 AM | Reply

Stop being disingenuous. You honestly think it's not the same thing? Like for real?

He's just a poor persecuted man that was entrapped by the big bad police?

The rules are very clear, the Cop posing as a minor can't do anything to encourage or entice. Just have an account that indicates they are a minor. So here comes mister poor persecuted and entrapped pastor: "ooh! A child!"And starts sending them d1ck pics and asking to meet, and telling them all the nasty things they want to sexually do to them. They literally have no idea it's NOT a minor, so the law says if they initiate contact and initiate meeting for the sake of sex, it's the same as if the person is a minor. Because if the circumstances were different ... it was an actual child ... . Then that kid is going to end up raped.

#18 | Posted by ABH at 2021-07-21 08:44 AM | Reply

Name the minor he solicited.

I'll wait. Heck, I'll wait until they turn 18.

Of course, I'll be waiting forever, because the minor doesn't exist, and therefore can never turn 18.

Why are you arguing such basic facts, and why are you getting emotional about it?

#19 | Posted by snoofy at 2021-07-21 08:57 AM | Reply

"Because if the circumstances were different"

Circumstances weren't different.

"Stop being disingenuous. You honestly think it's not the same thing? Like for real?"

You think Bart Simpson is the same thing as a real boy?

Like for real?

"They literally have no idea it's NOT a minor, so the law says if they initiate contact and initiate meeting for the sake of sex, it's the same as if the person is a minor."

This is what I've been saying all along. They think it's a minor, but it's not. It's an adult.

No actual minor was at risk here. So, if I'm clear on what the law says, and you're clear on what the law says, why is it so hard for you to acknowledge that no minor was actually at risk here?

The law doesn't change the fact that the minor is a fictitious person.

And the fact is, what you wrote meets the definition of entrapment.

Why is this hard for you to acknowledge?

Is it that you don't know what entrapment is?

The only thing I'm doing is explaining that entrapment is legal for certain crimes.

Once you get past your emotions, maybe you'll be able to see the facts.

Facts like no minor was solicited here.

#24 | Posted by snoofy at 2021-07-21 09:39 AM | Reply

#25 | Posted by ABH at 2021-07-21 09:42 AM | Reply

"How do you explain hooker stings when the "hooker" is a cop?"

By mentioning that it would be unthinkable to actually have a minor hooker there and the only way to catch these perves is stings like the one in the article. I see nothing wrong with it at all and only wish there were more of them. Those who participate in child sex rings are the most evil pieces of filth on the planet.

#26 | Posted by danni at 2021-07-21 12:07 PM | Reply

"Except it isn't entrapment."

Of course it's entrapment

The cops set up a trap, with a fake minor. A bunch of dudes fell for it.

In what world is that not entrapment?

#27 | Posted by snoofy at 2021-07-21 12:10 PM | Reply

It would be entrapment if the cops set up a profile as a minor and then solicited for sex. They didn't. They had a profile sitting there doing nothing and all these idiots couldn't wait to try and have sex with a minor.

No sympathy, and no entrapment.

#28 | Posted by ABH at 2021-07-21 12:16 PM | Reply

"They had a profile sitting there"

It set itself up?

"The hotel room staged with video cameras so the suspects can be prosecuted at the highest charge."

The cameras were just sitting there too?

"Brewer is one of 18 men Whitwell says were intentionally seeking out sexual activity from a 16-year-old girl in Spring Hill. Lt. Whitwell says the ads were posted online on websites one would have to seek out."

Who posted the ads, the non-existent 16 year old girl?

#29 | Posted by snoofy at 2021-07-21 12:23 PM | Reply

"No sympathy"

Not even for the 16 year old girl?

Why don't you have sympathy for a 16 year old girl who got turned out by the police?

Then this should be hilarious:

States where the age of consent is 16 (31): Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio,[a] Oklahoma, Pennsylvania,[b] Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington, and West Virginia.

Iowa: "A Person 14 and 15 years of age may consent to sex with a person within 48 months of their age"

So a 14 year old is good to go with an 18 year old, and a 15 years old with a 19 year old.

#33 | Posted by YAV at 2021-07-21 01:58 PM | Reply

#29 - Would it be better if a child made the profile for the police and then the cops took over the account? That way you could have a real kid to focus on? Do you think if a child had typed the words that the people wouldn't have been trying to have sex with them?

#34 | Posted by Undecided at 2021-07-22 11:17 AM | Reply

Better at what? Not being entrapment? I doubt it.

The entrapment is legal in these circumstances, so I'm not sure what you're attempting to make "better" here.

Maybe we should start with that.

#35 | Posted by snoofy at 2021-07-22 11:27 AM | Reply

Also, no, I don't think it's better for society, or for children, for police to recruit them to their entrapment schemes, when there's no need.

I'm pretty sure that's how you make a child into a Kyle Rittenhouse.

Do you think that would be better?

#36 | Posted by snoofy at 2021-07-22 11:39 AM | Reply

Sorry, that should be "vulnerable child." Most children don't become a Kyle Rittenhouse. But some children can be groomed better than others.
