This thread should really be a front page headline in all caps. This is a huge fkkking deal.

I'm sure a lot of people think that about their own threads.

"I'm sure a lot of people think that about their own threads."

And in cases they may be right. I certainly don't think that about all or even most of my threads.

This shows mainland China has gone all in on its "wolf warrior diplomacy" by threatening a first strike with nuclear weapons against a neighboring country. Chinese people are extremely racist against the Japanese because of what happened in a previous century, and their government is exploiting and exacerbating that racism.

The PRC has consciously decided to adopt the DPRK model of international relations.

Well I guess they "will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.". Worked last time.

A growing chorus of nuclear energy stakeholders is asking the Biden administration and Congress to reverse course and open up the Chinese market to U.S. nuclear energy companies in the name of safety and climate change.

President Biden is continuing former President Trump's 2018 nuclear energy policy restricting U.S. nuclear energy companies from exporting to, or developing nuclear energy technology with, China.

Makes sense if the goal is to attempt to take out the US IndoPacFleet and supporting elements.

This would turn the western world against the prc though

#10, it's not the fact they're rattling sabers over Taiwan that's surprising. It's that they've done in it such a brazen and despicable way.

"Brazen and despicable." From China? What a shocker.

China historically displays many faces, adopts various postures. This is one of them.

So you're saying it's no big deal when a country threatens a nuclear first-strike against another?

I'm well aware of the many faces and postures that "China" displays. I saw it first hand when I lived there for 5 years, and also from afar both before and afterwards. They've always acted like crybaby bullies, but I never saw anything this brazen or dangerously OTT make international news. In the past, they made vague threats of military action against outsiders who interfered with their "internal" affairs. They basically made an exception to advocate for genocide against a specific group of people here.

This is good news as it is signaling that China doesn't think it can win a conventional war in Taiwan.
It will also make anti-China alliance building easier.

It also means I better get my visit to Taiwan and Japan done soon.

I wonder if direct flights from the US to Japan are still as turbulent as they used to be. I remember they discontinued one of the routes (from Minneapolis) because of that.

#17 China isn't going to nuke Japan if they think Japan can nuke Xi, give Japan a few nukes on 'loan' with a kill switch. Being able to kill leaders seems to be the best war defense.
