The COVID-19 vaccines have proven to be more than 99.9% effective in New Jersey, with 84 hospitalizations and 31 having deaths out of the 4.4 million people in the state fully vaccinated by the end of June, Gov. Phil Murphy announced Monday.

OK, I was probably one of the first vaccinated person on DR since volunteered for the Astra Zenica vaccine. (Still not approved in the USA) I received my first dose in November and 2nd on 12/7/20 before ANY vaccine received EAU in the USA.

The statement in the article is false. It was released by someone who does NOT understand how medical statistics work. They would have to assume that EVERYONE who was vaccinated was exposed in the time frame they reported upon.

Everyone should get a Covid vaccination but the methodology is wrong and their claims (99.9% efficacy) would not survive any kind of scientific peer review.

Breakthrough cases will always happen.

You are clearly pro-virus. Why?

I guess that means the vaccine is worthless and we should throw it out.

So.

Until it is 100% effective, mask mandates and restrictions on human interaction must remain in place.

Or until there is sufficient immunity in the population that severe cases and hospitalizations drop to near pre-pandemic levels.

You know, this thing called "herd immunity."

Maybe you've heard of it?

So where did you get your MD? How long have you been a doctor?

The DR wants to know.

"Everyone should get a Covid vaccination"

That's also medically factually wrong.

"but the methodology is wrong and their claims (99.9% efficacy) would not survive any kind of scientific peer review.:

"So it's yellow journalism."

I wouldn't take it that far.

They're quoting somethings the governor said, if I understand the story. It's a bit lazy to not say "According to the Gov," but we live in a character limited world.

"Yellow journalism, the use of lurid features and sensationalized news in newspaper publishing to attract readers and increase circulation."

This is not to increase circulation.

This is to increase vaccination.

Want to increase vaccination?

Pay people.

It's not like the government hasn't been making it rain for the last 16 months anyway.

Under two administrations, I might add.

What you could do is tie unemployment bennies to COVID vaccine.

The -------- line to date is that many low-income workers are scared about returning to work due to COVID. So deny them unemployment benefits unless they get vaxxed.

Of course if they are vaxxed, then they have no excuse not to work, and would have to adhere to the traditional rules regarding unemployment. Which in this market, means they would very quickly find themselves employed. Something that a lot of them probably aren't looking forward to.
