Georgia Republicans have taken the first step on their freshly blazed path toward a possible takeover of Fulton County's elections.

A letter obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution shows two dozen state senators support a performance review of Fulton elections chief Richard Barron. The letter was written Tuesday, the very same day a front-page AJC story examined the prospect of a takeover of elections in Fulton, home to a tenth of all Georgians.

As written into Senate Bill 202, the State Election Board can replace a county's election board following a performance review/audit/investigation. Then, a temporary superintendent would enjoy full managerial authority of how the county counts votes and staffs polling places.

Fulton elections takeover would make history

Experts say Georgia Republicans' request to audit the elections of Democrat-heavy Fulton County is a historical first in the national story of partisanship invading elections management.

If this blatant abuse of power is allowed to stand and spread to other states, bye-bye US democracy. Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema, I hope you are paying attention and will step up and do the right thing.

Sick. Republican voters don't see anything wrong with this? What happens when 'officials' decide who takes offices and they're living in no more than an outright China-like system?

@#3 ... Republican voters don't see anything wrong with this? ...

My guess is that the Republicans in Georgia looked at the recent election for Georgia Senate seats, and realized that the only way they will continue to win in Georgia is by putting their thumb on the scale.

That Republicans are doing these type of things is confirmation that they know they cannot win elections by votes alone.

This is shaping up to be the voting equivalent of when Republicans poisoned the Flint water supply.

Operating under the principal that for every action, there is an equal an opposite reaction: have any of these republican state representatives stopped to think how a democratic incumbent president would respond if the republican state legislature overruled the will of their states voters showing that the democrat won?
