One segment of people who have avoided shots is vehemently opposed to the idea. But there is a second group, surveys suggest, that is still deciding.

The unvaccinated fall into two groups, the vaccine hesitant and the vaccine resistant:

As coronavirus cases rise across the United States, the fight against the pandemic is focused on an estimated 93 million people who are eligible for shots but have chosen not to get them. These are the Americans who are most vulnerable to serious illness from the highly contagious Delta variant and most likely to carry the virus, spreading it further.

It turns out, though, that this is not a single set of Americans, but in many ways two.

In one group are those who say they are adamant in their refusal of the coronavirus vaccines; they include a mix of people but tend to be disproportionately white, rural, evangelical Christian and politically conservative, surveys show.

In the other are those who say they are open to getting a shot but have been putting it off or want to wait and see before making a decision; they are a broad range of people, but tend to be a more diverse and urban group, including many younger people, Black and Latino Americans, and Democrats.

With cases surging and hospitalizations rising, health officials are making progress in inoculating this second group, who surveys suggest account for less than half of all unvaccinated adults in the United States.

The problem is the same surveys show that the group firmly opposed to the vaccines outnumbers those willing to be swayed. And unless the nation finds a way to persuade the unwavering, escaping the virus's grip will be a long way off, because they make up as much as 20 percent of the adult population.

I'm pretty sure most of the pipe-hitters have been vaxxed.

In that line of work vaccinations are a common occurrence.

Wussies afraid of a shot. I remember standing in long lines for vaccinations when I was a kid. There were always one or two screaming Karen kids throwing a ringtail hissy fit because they didn't want a shot they were afraid of a little needle. They still had to get the shots they just got the added bonus of looking stupid in front of everyone.

So here we are and not much has changed.

Nowadays reoublicl0wns aren't afraid of looking stupid. They hired a senile cl0wn to represent them and they just can't quit him. No shame whatsoever.

I think a better solution so they can't clog up the system with their stupid is to just give them the minimum care if they can't prove they are immunized. Send them home with a bottle of oxygen a nasal cannula with some antibiotics and let them die the slow death in front of the families instead of medical staff.

You don't want a shot then fine ... you waive the right to extraordinary treatment to save your stupid@$$.

That's my cousin....

She won't get vaxxed.

She won't let her teenage daughter WHO WANTS TO GET VAXXED get vaxxed.

She won't wear a mask.

She won't social distance.

She thinks white sky jesus will protect her. Yet she carries a gun to go grocery shopping.

She is out front of the school superintendent's home carrying a sign that says "Don't Muzzle my 7 year old...NO MASK!"

She called up when she found out from her mother that we are having a cookout and screamed at me why she wasn't invited. My answer was "Did you get vaxxed like your parents did?" Her answer was it was her personal choice not to do so. I told her if she could not respect the people around her enough to not get vaccinated to protect their lives, then she should not expect me to allow her near the people that I love and care about. On a plus side, I have one less Christmas card to mail this year. I have elderly relatives that have weakened immune systems, I am not putting them at risk.

Yet not one comment about a very real threat in which illegal immigrants are spreading it across the country. This is what is so sad. Trump makes mistakes and Dems, especially the kids on this site, go insane on him and demonize him and support looting, rioting, and killing because of him. Yet, Biden makes the same mistakes and crickets. Nothing. If Dems are so gung-ho in wanting forced vaccinations, why are they ignoring a group of people in which they CAN force vaccinations before they enter? I won't pull a Fox and say illegals are the main cause but they are a significant cause of it spreading across the country, and some of it is directly due to the legislation Biden has passed down since taking office. Before you try to remove freedoms from citizens, why are so many of you so intent on putting Americans last at the expense of people who are committing crimes? You can't argue any of that, so please just stick to posting the facts that support your cause, not demonizing or name-calling the person who is actually bringing up reality. It's OK to be wrong sometimes or to not have a good answer, what isn't OK is holding the side you don't agree with accountable for every tiny transgression but not holding your own party accountable for even significant issues. Start calling on your own party to do better. Until you clean up their mess, stop trying to clean up other messes because, if you haven't noticed in the last 4 decades (well, all of you on here are kids so I'll say "last decade" instead), partisan hate isn't fixing a damn thing...one could argue it's actually making things worse.

If that were true, immigration centers at the southern border would be obvious hotspots. Since they're not, it's either the largest, best-kept secret in America ...

... or you're not applying basic logic.

#17 | Posted by Danforth at 2021-08-02 12:22 PM | Reply

The entire border is a hotspot in Texas. Outbreak in migrant camps at Reynosa. Nuevo Laredo is a hotspot. Lack of vaccine access on the Southern side of it. The Mayor of Laredo wants to allow Mexican nationals to cross over on foot to get vaccinated. The maquiladora programs just kicked off two weeks ago so Mexican nationals working in the US are being vaccinated.

"Outbreak in migrant camps at Reynosa."

But if immigrants were "bringing it", there'd be hotspots everywhere, right?

"The border is closed until August 21st for non-essential travel due to Covid."

So the claims of bringing Covid north to the point of exacerbating the problem are manure.

Legal immigrants can't bring it. The border is closed. Those applying for refugee status are turned to camps, which are experiencing covid outbreaks. Illegals detained by ICE, 8 dead from COVID, 6,000 positives in ICE detention centers.

Snoofy had to dig back to an article from may to suggest cops aren't getting vaccinated. Go back a little farther to 2020 when huge numbers of them got infected, thanks in part to BLM protesters yelling and spitting in their faces. While you were social distancing and working from home they were up close and personal with the worst of society. It's Still a good idea to get vaccinated, but when everyone you know has already either died or beaten the virus, many don't see the point.

#24 | Posted by Miranda7 at 2021-08-02 03:56 PM | Reply

Didn't make it clear, I'm talking about those who have already been infected that decline the vaccine. And a pretty large percentage of cops have been infected.

"the worst of society"

BLM protesters are not the worst of society.

The cop who killed George Floyd, and the cops who stood around and watched a murder unfold before their eyes and did nothing to stop it, are the worst of society.

If things were done properly and people took advantage of the amazing position they're in by living in a country with free, readily available vaccines and mitigation measures you wouldn't need to shut the borders.

The scapegoating of migrants, who represent a drop in the bucket compared to the tens of millions of "muh freedumz" idiots running around is a common feature of FB memes and the uninformed sharing them. Odd I'd see you go down that road.

You're just being petulant. Things weren't done properly. It is not scapegoating to point out the Biden Administration has closed the border and is sending migrants to camps that are Covid hotspots. Nor that the entire border is a hotspot where the chance of Texans dying is vastly higher than anywhere else in state. Nor that there's outbreaks in Federal detention centers.

That doesn't in any way suggest migrants are driving COVID outbreaks in that area.

It simply means COVID is prevalent and they're putting large groups of people together in closed, confined spaces.

What migrant center not at the border is a hotspot? If the nefarious Biden scheme to ship migrants secretly around the country is drive COVID outbreaks, then surely you have plenty of examples of migrant center locations being particularly high in case loads.

Oh hell, is there a migrant detention center in Springfield, MO?

and the answer to this is there's an ICE Processing Center for Illegal Immigrants in Springfield, MO. Opened in 2019. They only maintain a few holding cells in the building and keep the people being processed in county jails.

I have no doubt some of them are COVID+. It's a pandemic.

The issue is people acting as if COVID would peter out if only we stopped migrants from entering; that the dominating force keeping our surge going is migrants reintroducing COVID.

Of which there is zero evidence and, honestly, a ridiculously low chance of happening statistically.
