Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

At the start of the novel coronavirus pandemic, New York served as the disease's ground zero in the United States, as it rapidly infected an unsuspecting public and quickly overwhelmed the state's hospitals. At the time, states like Texas were far behind New York in terms of total statewide COVID-19 deaths, but the Houston Chronicle reports that the Lonestar State has now surpassed New York despite once trailing it by 29,000 total deaths.

"It seems that many of the Texas policies were put in place to try and prevent health care collapse rather than trying to prevent transmission."

If their power grid is any indication, then Texas made the right call there.

Plus, it's Texas. In Texas, "Some things are more important than living."

My Republican Congressman, Arrington, is actively pro-virus. He would deny such a description but you need only read his ongoing published messages. He is continually corrected in his lies concerning COVID and continually shamed for his resistance to public health interventions but it never seems to matter. His District is now being hit hard by COVID, but he does not acknowledge this.

Arrington refuses to condemn Qanon, which may explain where he is coming from.

When you have a p.o.s. for governor along with a Lt Gov that tells grandparents to go out and shop and sacrifice their lives to the virus so that their grandchildren will have a good economy this is what you get.

"The profits of a handful of billionaires are more important than protecting the living" should be the new state motto.

The Director of Death, Greg Abbott! Between freezing us to death and disease-ing us to death, he was determined to make Texas the least desirable place in America. You did it, Greg!

Why is this even a story when Texas has 50% more population?

If you read the article...

Spencer Fox, associate director of the University of Texas COVID-19 Modeling Consortium, tells the Chronicle that he's not surprised that Texas has surpassed New York's death total given the two very different approaches they've taken to the pandemic.

"They enacted really strong, precautionary measures that overall are well based in the available science," Fox told the paper. "It seems that many of the Texas policies were put in place to try and prevent health care collapse rather than trying to prevent transmission."

If that's not enough, tell me the difference between these two graphs:

I'll wager the Empire State still leads in literacy and percentage of high school graduates...

It's a story because Americans actually care about Americans dying? Especially in large numbers that could have been prevented. Even if they are Texans and are dying due to their own ignorance.

It reflects poorly on the rest of us.

The Count is Texis probably way higher.

Texas only counts COVID if it was a State approved center testing for it. If it was a private clinic, it doesn't count. And we have a LOT of such clinics in Texas.

"On March 24, 2020, Governor Greg Abbott ordered every public or private entity that is utilizing an FDA-approved test, including an emergency use authorization test, for human diagnostic purposes of COVID- 19, shall submit to DSHS, as well as to the local health department, daily reports of all test results, including positive, negative, and indeterminate."
