After an unruly audience forced the Buncombe County Board of Education to call a recess during its Aug. 5 meeting, a group of parents opposing the district's mask mandate "overthrew" the current board and instated themselves into the positions.

I'm thinking there will be a mass exodus of educators from Trumpy areas.

Idaho is having a McCarthy-esque effort to "rid the education system of liberal brainwashing". They haven't found any evidence, and are basically just going around harassing students and faculty.

So their education system is going to suck, their people will get dumber and less skilled, poverty increases because they don't know how to do anything.

And it will further confirm to them they're all being victimized, driving them further into the trenches of their far right ideology.

I love how a small group of Republicans think they can kick out the board, have thirty people vote them in and be Democratic.

We just need to start kicking these people out of the country.

Grassroots: take over local government, school boards, libraries anything they can.

I read something recently about a group of 3%ers in Washington state who are attempting this in a small town.

As for Madison Cawthorn showing up at a meeting of a local school board, doesn't he have a job up north a ways that requires his attention? I guess in his case it's just some make-work, no-show job...

So what?

Why don't you ever address the sickness and fascism that has taken over your party instead of just saying there's nothing to worry about because their incompetence has so far blocked their success?

You can see what their goals are. Someday they'll develop better strategies to achieve them.

Just like they failed to find ways to overturn the will of the voters in 2020, so they're rewriting the laws so they can overturn the will of the voters in 2022.

No it's not. Mob takeover of duly elected officials is NOT America. If they want to be the elected folks, they can either run, or back their candidates.

But tell us: if next time, a larger group of liberals shows up and takes over, is THAT okay, too?

Well, if that doesn't give them the right to declare themselves the new authorities, nothing does.

Oh, right: nothing does.

There's a pathway to fix it in America, and it's NOT mob takeover.

If you show up spewing misinformation you don't deserve to be listened to, boaz.

You also don't deserve to be listened to if "listening" means YOUR view gets enacted at the expense of the majority's view.

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.

Buncombe county, so Asheville, and the conservatives are surprised that the school board is liberal?

The majority in Buncombe county is liberal if the conservatives left don't like it they are free to move to any of the 94 conservative counties in the state. Isn't that the usual conservative argument when liberals complain about conservatives in government?

More lies from Boaz. You don't know the first thing about liberals because your idea of a liberal is anyone to the left of Vladimir Putin.

If you actually read the article and watched the video from the meeting then you would know that "nearly three dozen speakers took the podium holding signs stating...". They were given plenty of opportunity to speak and be heard and then when committee discussions were occurring they became unruly and disruptive and forced a recess.
They weren't there to take part in a deliberative process. They were there to dictate their terms and their actions of this fake take over demonstrate that. They don't want democratic governance, they want mob rule. No surprise that an insurrection supporting traitor like yourself would support them.
