Human activity is changing the climate in unprecedented and sometimes irreversible ways, a major UN scientific report has said. The landmark study warns of increasingly extreme heatwaves, droughts and flooding, and a key temperature limit being broken in just over a decade. The report "is a code red for humanity", says the UN chief.

The truth is, the majority of humanity opposes taking serious action to counter global warming if it is going to cost them lots of money as individuals. We seem to feel entitled to be rescued by our governments at no cost to ourselves.

Let the Great Culling begin.

Think of all the resources that will be available to the rest of us after all the Trumpy morons are dead and the pandemic is finally defeated!!!

Just trying to look in the bright side.

Always look on the bright side of Life.

For life is quite absurd (hoo-hoo)
And death's the final word (hoo-hoo)
You must always face the curtain with a bow (hoo-hoo-hoo)
Forget about your sin (hoo-hoo)
Give the audience a grin (hoo-hoo)
Enjoy it, it's your last chance anyhow

So always look on the bright side of death
A-just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of ---- (hoo-hoo)
When you look at it (hoo-hoo)
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true (hoo-hoo-hoo)
You'll see it's all a show (hoo-hoo)
Keep 'em laughin' as you go (hoo-hoo)
Just remember that the last laugh is on you (hoo-hoo-hoo)

And

Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life

#4 the line for Degrowth and 90% consumption reduction starts behind little Greta.

Are you jumping in that one or praying for a tech miracle?

It really is going to be a wait and see approach. Humanity won't do anything to stop greenhouse gasses enough that would stop anthropogenic global warming if it's real. So, we just have to wait and see if all of the predictions are right by 2050. Cons love to talk about how all this talk is new but I very clearly remember something I was watching in the early 1990s, back when the ozone issue was the problem, and they showed a map of Florida by 2050 and it was very close to what the global warming scientists are predicting. Their science has very real data behind it, just as much as the deniers. So we will see.

If things don't start to really rapidly increase within the next 10 years, I'd have a hard time believing it will happen though. I mean, in Key West and many other parts of the country where rising sea levels are a very real threat, they actually show (with those pesky facts people don't like) that the sea level hasn't risen any more than it would naturally. So if that data doesn't change by 2030, it's going to start causing a lot of doubt. I just wish everyone would get over the whole "stop global warming" thing. It's going to happen. All the effort and money should be spent on building infrastructure so we can live with the effects the scientists keep saying will occur.

How'd that turn out for the 600,000 dead Americans Fat Donnie killed?

Too many cognitive biases involved --focalism, normalcy bias, prospect theory, attribute substitution, extension neglect, curse of knowledge, framing effect, hard-easy effect, ... just to name a few-- and they are too strong.

Democracy makes it certain that no politician will ever do anything that doesn't produce a return measurable in next week's poll.

We are not evolved (or created if you prefer) for this task. And our governments are ill-equipped, at best.

Speaking of pipe dreams, maybe the Koreans/Chinese will get the KSTAR stable soon. Too-cheap-to-meter power, basically the premise of a Sci-Fi novel IRL in less than 20 years, or else...

She's just a mascot. Degrowth Science has an answer to climate change. It doesn't involve massive government programs and calls for personal sacrifice, with even Snoofy having to cut his consumption in half. I think it's pretty safe to say that America, regardless of political affiliation, doesn't give a ---- about Climate Change or taking real measures to address it.

Science: America, you need to consume less. A lot less.
America: I hear you ScienceBros. We have to prep for the upcoming mineral wars so we can save the planet by mining.
