Just because some people pay a lot in local taxes, be it property taxes or state income taxes, doesn't mean it should excuse them of their responsibility of funding the federal government. Property taxes don't fund the military or the myriad of other vital federal programs that exist.

Ahh SALT cap "relief". Definitely a tax cut for the land owner class, but kinda chump change when they're spending in the trillions.

"Just because some people pay a lot in local taxes, be it property taxes or state income taxes, doesn't mean it should excuse them of their responsibility of funding the federal government."

Which flies in the face of the concept in place since 1913: taxes aren't due on taxes paid.

The gov should raise property taxes and allow them to be deducted from income taxes. 0% interest loans to the rich is allowing them to buy up properties and pay no tax until they eventually sell them. They can deduct depreciation from any rent received to delay paying taxes for many years.

This will be a disaster for the young that want to buy a home.

The right loves the SALT cap, even though it increases taxes on the wealthy, because it increases taxes on the wealthy who live in blue states. Think about it for a second or two -- why is the right so in favor of increasing taxes on the wealthy all of a sudden?

That is the reason why fmr Pres Trump put the SALT cap in place in the first place. Similar to his early response to COVID, he wanted to hurt the blue states.

In the long equation, four blue states foot the bill: NY, CA, NJ, and iirc, either CT or MD.

Regardless of how you feel about the democratic party and Schumer specifically......he's representing his constituents.

SALT is a tax break for the "ultra wealthy"?

Hardly.

Is that how it polls with republicans?

republicans support a cap on SALT?

I doubt most republicans even understand how the cap works.

You know who understands it? Those affected by the cap. Not too many after that.

@#8 ... I doubt most republicans even understand how the cap works. ...

I would tend to agree that many, perhaps even most, rank and file Republicans do not know the significance of the cap.

But I'd proffer that the Republican leaders know exactly what the cap is, and who it affects the most.

"republicans support a cap on SALT?"

Every Republican here did. I suppose a few like you punted... congrats I guess.

I completely agree.

It's all dependent on where you live. If you live in Kansas, the most expensive trailer home goes for about a buck-fifty. In LA, an 800 sq ft shack sells for $800k. It's disingenuous to pretend this is a "tax break for the wealthy" - in reality, none of the -------- flyover states would qualify for anything near $10k while the people that run the economy and actually pay for everything else have to shell out big bucks for their homes.

I live in a -------- flyover state where in my county...the property taxes are approximately 2%.

We have a state income tax as well.

It's quite easy to go way over $10K in SALT.

Now....how expensive is your trailerhouse, braindead?

But.......I agree with you and that's 1 reason why this cap harms blue state residents more than others.

Blue states have higher SALT already in many cases (NY for example).

Ahh, the person that doesn't know how the SPM works.

For Cali wealth being lost to flyover states, it's Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Also, Cali is just a flyover state on the way to Hawaii beaches.

Tell me how many in the GOP voted against it in 2017.

Feel free to open a bunch of petrochemical refineries and seed your coasts with drilling platforms to feed those blue beasts.

We've heard this song before.
Like...constantly from the GOP for the last 40+ years...
TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS HAS NEVER WORKED....EVER!
It is a lie generated by the rich, and enacted by
the Corporate Sellout Party (GOP) to keep the rich
filthy rich, and to ensure large donations to the
aforementioned Corporate Sellout Party...
