Florida's ban on mask mandates in schools has fallen at precisely the moment in the trajectory of the US pandemic when Covid protections for children are needed most.

... Florida's ban on mask mandates ...

www.vox.com

...DeSantis Press Secretary Christina Pushaw dismissed research linking mask mandates to reduced Covid-19 spread in an email to Vox, writing, "Governor DeSantis will continue to protect individual rights from unscientific mandates promoted by overreaching politicians who are desperate to give the appearance of doing something' even if it has no effect."...

Not only does Gov DeSantis forbid localities from implementing mask mandates, his Press Secretary says that masks mandates don't work.

Texas and Florida are a reflection of a bigger picture; states where rwingers are desperately holding on to their slight advantages in recent elections and lashing out at their "enemies" in any way they can, doing anything to "own" the Dems, even putting their children at risk.

Sad story.

When kids start dying because they wanted to wear a mask and were told they couldn't, desantis and abbott should be arrested and tried for 1st degree murder.

@#2 ... even putting their children at risk. ...

Indeed, that is the truly sad aspect of this.

Politics above the welfare of their children.

At what point did "personal responsibility" to be a good parent fall to the wayside?

At what point does knowingly allowing your children to be exposed to possible severe illness become child abuse?

"...even putting their children at risk."

Don't matter...in current republican world, the ends justify the means and children are easily replaced.

Here in Okiehomie a loophole in our mask law was found. The law stated the "school boards' couldn't impose mask mandates. The Superintendent of the OKC schools stepped up last week and said 'OK--I'm imposing the mask mandate for students in OKC schools.' The legislature heaved a collective "Hey--wait..." and our spineless, cowardly governor reportedly approved of the Super stepping in, probably stating under his breath "Thank God--someone stepped up and got me out of this mess..."

Morons need to stop electing Morons...

Science, Reason, & Logic should be Number 1 in this country...
Religion a distant 2nd...if that.

Nobody wishes this, but as usual the GOP does not believe anything until it effects them personally.

The sooner they lose a loved-one, the sooner they will pull their heads from you know where and we can begin to seriously work towards herd immunity.

An immediate family member is preferred to make the biggest impact.

Nominate him for Governor. I know nothing about him except what you just posted and already know he'd do a better job that then limpdeck currently running the state.

And here lies the true pity of America's response to Covid.
Helpless children caught in the middle.

Heard that Abbott now has COVID....just desserts. F! him, I honestly don't care if he lives or dies. He is a scourge on the citizens of his state, just like DeathSantis is here.
Do I hope Karma rewards them both appropriately, well, yes I do. Kids are dying because of them, parents are grieving because of them. There is no honest way to avoid the reality of their governance.

"When kids start dying because they wanted to wear a mask and were told they couldn't, desantis and abbott should be arrested and tried for 1st degree murder."

This is proof positive evidence that Liberals STILL don't get what Reps are debating. DeSantis is wanting masks to be a choice. He doesn't want the government to be mandating anything that removes freedoms unless there is very compelling evidence to do so. That should be encouraged by ALL sides.

The REAL debate that needs to be made is what is the threshold of deaths? Right now, there is a 2% death rate in America (according to worldometers) of people who contract the virus. 10% of the people who live in America have contracted it. So the risk of dying from covid is incredibly tiny because first you have to get it (with a 10% chance) and then you have to die from it (2% of the 10%). Which, according to USA Today, equates to a .05% chance of dying from covid in America. So is a .05% chance of dying worth the forceful removal of freedoms, is .05% chance of dying worth allowing the people to have a choice, or is .05% death rate worth having any conversations about?

Until America comes up with an answer to that and works together to make it an established threshold, all we are doing is arguing opinions. The only reason Liberals are having a problem with this is because their party has allowed themselves to become the exact opposite of what America was founded on, i.e. a party of people who feel that if anyone has a different opinion than they do then they are immediately wrong, should be hated, and must disregarded. And hating people, calling them names, wanting freedoms removed, etc. are NOT something that should happen because of arguing opinions.

You need to apologize for being a Trump supporter. Until you do that you're just making yourself look stupid.

By the way, when and how did you decide that 600,000 American dead is not a lot of people?

Pshaw... the ordinary flu kills that many in less than 18 years. Don't even get me started on transportation accidents. Or Portland.
