Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, August 17, 2021

Office of the Governor Communications Director Mark Miner today issued a statement after Governor Greg Abbott tested positive for COVID-19: "Governor Greg Abbott today tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The Governor has been testing daily, and today was the first positive test result. Governor Abbott is in constant communication with his staff, agency heads, and government officials to ensure that state government continues to operate smoothly and efficiently. The Governor will isolate in the Governor's Mansion and continue to test daily. Governor Abbott is receiving Regeneron's monoclonal antibody treatment. "Governor Abbott is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, in good health, and currently experiencing no symptoms. Everyone that the Governor has been in close contact with today has been notified. Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott tested negative."

Quickly getting access to monoclonal antibody therapy when you're the fully vaccinated, asymptomatic Governor of Texas shows just how anxious and scared @GregAbbott_TX actually is of a virus that he constantly downplays.

Hope Texans take note.

Wasn't Obama's party outdoors, and didn't he require folks to be vaccinated or have a negative covid test result? As opposed to this:

#9 - a reputable unbiased news source would know. A twitter? LOL But even if true, are the host, Obama, and attendees of this party so blindly elitist they don't understand how the "little people" who obviously will be watching view the maskless soiree while hearing them preach, "wear the mask!"

So, that's interesting. And potentially bad news for booster shot efficacy.

I still stand by my criticism of Obama's lavish maskless event, even if vax passports were required. It's human nature to frown upon elitism. Much is said about setting examples. It's not a unilateral thing.

Abbott was out gladhanding the same day, right before he tested positive. I'm sure they all know who they are by now and there's a mad scramble for testing.

Abbott was hugging and kissing people the night before he tested positive. Video of the event is now being broadcast. An event filled with people that statistically are likely to have a sizable proponent of unvaccinated, weren't asked, was indoors, was extremely crowded, did not socially distance, and there were virtually no masks.

Basic mitigation techniques that have proved to work were ignored.

I didn't see any. Did they have "Vote for Abbott" embroidered on them. It was kind of hard to tell with so many people squashed together like sardines. No chairs. Just standing room only, just as advertised.

Elitist... Now that's funny. Having a birthday party. One that was trimmed way down from the original list. I didn't realize it was elitist to get vaccinated. Or is it "elitist" to require people be vaccinated to attend a gathering? Was it giving out masks to attendees? I know, it was the fact he had it outdoors, amiright?

Speaking of "elitist", what was that gathering of folks Abbot was at the night before his positive test? The one that didn't feature masks, with a handful of exceptions. That didn't feature a vaccination check. That was indoors. That was crowded (we all can see the videos and photos). Now isn't THAT elitist?

I mean Obama still having his birthday party may be a slight bit tone deaf but they did the right things to make it reasonably safe. (I mean even having it in Hawaii where they take it very seriously goes a long way toward making sure things were indeed safe.) If EVERYONE did this, can you imagine the amount of COVID cases and deaths we would not have in places like Texas or Florida?

Get a grip man.

#25 | Posted by GalaxiePete at 2021-08-18 09:22 AM | Reply

Basic mitigation techniques that have proven to work were ignored.

By the way, let me emphasize this next point: Abbott's main 'anti-mask' spiel is based on his contention that people will do the right thing. Clearly he did not do the right thing, nor did most of those in his fund raising back slapping hugging and kissing event.

What an idiot.

No. I'm suggesting that the possibility for transmission at an outdoor event with everyone vaccinated is insanely low.

And I'm pointing out you aren't criticizing the literally tens of thousands of outdoor events across the country that aren't even requiring vaccines.

To claim this event is elitist or hypocritical would only be done by a political hack.

What death rate? The fact that 99% of deaths are unvaccinated patients? That death rate?

Or the fact that the death rate is rising because it lags behind case loads by 4-6 weeks? You know, the same length of time it always have when you idiots say "well deaths aren't going up!"

Think about this ...

We're testing less than half the number of people a day we did during last winter's COVID surge, when the average was 150,000-200,000 new COVID positive tests and 1000-1500 deaths reported a day.

Yesterday's test numbers were half of last winter's peak, but there were still over 163,000 new cases and 1,128 deaths due to COVID reported yesterday. Hospital ICUs are at or over capacity, and available hospital beds are in single digits where there are available beds.

www.google.com

In other words, we're in a worse pandemic surge now than we were last winter, and it's only August.

Thanks to Abbott, DeathSantis, and their ilk of anti-mask and/or anti-mask idiots, we're gonna be in for one hell of a winter!
