Look up your state or county on an NPR-created map to find if the hospitals in your area are straining to deal with Covid cases: The ratio of COVID-19 hospitalizations to total beds gives a picture of how much strain a hospital is under.

Headine is incomplete. Full headline is - 42 Percent of U.S. Hospitals are Under High or Extreme Stress, THANKS TO TRUMP, ZUCKERBERG, PUTIN, RUPERT MURDOCH, AND MOST OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

Your local hospital is the hip, happenin' place to be. Folks are illin' to get in, and dying to get out. Nothing says freedom and personal responsibility like being tied to a ventilators in an ICU ward at your local hospital, for a contagious disease that the patient didn't or wouldn't prevent. Imagine if every patient in a Covid ward was there not because of Covid but because of a gunshot wound suffered at the grocery store, a mass stabbing at work, a 100,000 vehicle pile-up that took weeks from start to finish or other such slow-rolling event. Folks would say 'Don't go to the grocery store!', or would advise potential victims to take some other preventive action.

After Dylan Roof shot all those churchgoers in Charleston, people asked why some of the victims didn't put up a fight, or run and hide. The same has and is being asked of all these current Covid patients. My moral upbringing says I should be compassionate toward those who have contracted Covid in recent months, but it's getting harder and harder to be compassionate when people will not protect themselves and those around them...

The Republican party isn't in power right now. Not in any way. Trump got the vaccine created faster than any other vaccine for a pandemic in the history of mankind. He didn't handle it perfectly, for sure. But since Dems have had a year and 5 months to prepare their strategy and have had 7 months to execute it, whatever mistakes Trump did or did not make mean very little at this time.

It takes a VERY hate-filled person, and most likely quite a low intellect, for someone to seriously still be blaming someone who has had no authority to make changes for 7 months. I mean, you kids on here aren't even accepting in any way that maybe Biden isn't handling it any better than Trump. Or that the sitting POTUS can really make much of a difference in terms of a topic so polarizing. Your instant reaction is to allow your hate to blame someone as far removed from your ego as possible.

Biden isn't doing a good job. It's very obvious. But that doesn't mean you are a bad person or it reflects badly on you. You can live life without feeling everything you are is reflected by who you agree with on political topics. Just because he isn't a God-like standard that you held Trump to in order to demonize him at every turn doesn't mean you are a bad person. It just means Biden isn't very good. We've had many politicians who aren't very good, both Reps and Dems. Chill out and live in reality for a few days, you may come to like it.

You think you need to be in office to have power? MLK was never elected to any office and he changed the nation.

Trump isn't in power but he's still the cult leader of your cult, dictating what everyone in the party is allowed to do or say without being ousted from the cult.

You think that's not power? To make senators who said he was reponsible for 1/6 to turn around and say it wasn't his fault?

If biden isn't doing a good job now, what would you call it if he killed that many americans?

58% of hospitals are not under high or extreme stress. See, people like me and Governor DeSantis and Governor Abbott are "the glass is half full" kind of people. Seems like you liberals are always looking at the glass as being half empty. And in this case the glass is even more than half full. Whiny pearl clutchers. I'm like Ronald Reagan. I'm an optimist. It is mourning in America.

Glass half full. How about glass twice as full!

Ascension hospitals in Duval county (Jacksonville) are at 190% and 227% ICU capacity right now.

Probably why they're seeing overwhelmed Regeneron clinics.

JPW, you are so stupid. Percentage wise it can only go up to 100%. Nothing can go up to 190% or 227% capacity. This is just another example of liberals trying to make the situation sound worse than it is. When you say things like 190% or 227% it makes the situation sound so bad. It sounds much better and much more accurate to say the ICUs are only 100% filled with people dying from Covid. The spin stops here!

#12 | Posted by moder8 at 2021-08-19 02:12 PM | Reply

That's true.

Since those extra "ICU" beds are probably in the parking garage they're not really ICU beds!

They're probably making the patients take a parking ticket too for the spot they're occupying, increasing revenue for the hospital.

Good. I'm glad you agree with me. Because I think when people hear 190% or 227% capacity they get the wrong perception and get scared things are out of control. Much better to say 100% capacity in the ICU plus another 'percentage' on gurneys in the parking lot or stacked up in mobile morgues on the premise. Liberals are always trying to cause a panic.

Credit goes to those who worked tirelessly to research this virus and create the vaccine. Credit goes to those who participated in the clinical trials.

"Trump got the vaccine created?"

What did he do? Call it a hoax and tell everyone it will go away on its own?

Maybe you're referring to when he suggested drinking bleach while they shine flashlights up your rear end.

#5 Trump did nothing to create a Covid vaccine. Turkish immigrants in socialist Germany made the first and best vaccine (Pfizer) without any help from Trump.

Trump did rush the approval process, which likely contributed to vaccine hesitancy.

Trump killed hundreds of thousands of Americans by his callous, dismissive and inept response to Covid
Then he killed more by undermining the vaccination effort in his and Biden's administration.

Trump is the worst POTUS in history.

Would you prefer they use negative numbers instead?

Would that make you happy?

Ok. Then if there are -29 beds that means 29 people are waiting for a bed.

Feel better. Hope so. Because it also means there is no room in that hospital for you or anyone else at this time.

I hear there is room for you on the local library floor tho.

Assuming that is a serious question, let me give you a serious answer. I would prefer they use imaginary numbers instead. Knippety Shnop percent of the ICUs beds are filled, but they are hoping to add another Flibbery Bazoingo beds by the end of next week.

#27 | Posted by moder8 at 2021-08-20 02:45 PM | Reply

I didn't expect a serious answer.

And I didn't get one. I got an imaginary one. And you didn't even use an *imaginary number!

FYI ... When you square an imaginary number, you get a negative number.

*(Flibbery Bazoingo squared is not an negative number.)

You are such a partisan hack. The logical conclusion of what YOU are saying and admitting to is that people are dying UNNECESSARILY due to the policies and ideology that YOU support, and all you want to do is argue that "liberals are exaggerating". It is not the bed that matters, it is all the lifesaving equipment in the room AROUND the bed, and proximity to that vital equipment in nearby rooms that makes an "ICU bed" important. And you feely admit that there are all these "imaginary" people who do not have access to the lifesaving equipment they need, that are dying due to the ignorance and mismanagement of the people you support, that their blood is on your hands, and you don't give a crap.

That is the thing that pisses me off so much, that makes me unable to respect conservatives. Is that you spout "ideology", but it is clear that the ideology is just an excuse for the only thing that really matters to you, your own selfish self-interest. "Small-government"? How are banning local mask mandates, telling school administrators what they can and cannot do to protect the people they are responsible for in any way "small-government"? "Fiscal responsibility"? The basis of the Republican party fiscal policy is cutting taxes and hoping that the resulting deficit spending will "force" cuts in spending. The most irresponsible fiscal policy possible. Second amendment? Unless a minority even acts like they are going to touch a gun, then blow them away (and not a peep from the NRA).

I haven't been posting here much recently because there is no fun in it. There is no intelligent exchange of ideas. Because there are no longer any intelligent conservatives. The veneer has been stripped away and it is clear that all the "intelligent" debates I had before were just lip service by empty husks just filled with selfishness and racism.
