So they've just given up on even making prototypes before the pump and dump now.

Oh god. I can't. It's too much.

No they won't.

This is just hype to keep the stock price up. They will never make a robot. Not for at least decades.

Musk is flailing and desperate. He told a bunch of lies about how close he was to having full self driving cars, now he's trying to distract from that with stunts like getting rid of half the steering wheel, getting rid of turn signals, getting rid of gear selectors, and now pretending he's making robots.

Reading tesla fan sites, it's depressing to see how many of them are really so gullible that they think this is real.

Musk should stick to things he's good at: Building rockets. The Tesla is a dead end. Robots? Laughable.

Thanks for that link.

I said level 3 based upon what I read of the levels and what I am aware of regarding the cars.

I was too optimistic.

Level 2 is even worse for Mr Musk, as it makes him look even more like a sideshow barker.

Tesla making too many cars is bad. They close their credits. Without credits they have to increase msrp significantly.

Also, the entire premise of Tesla valuation was on revolutionizing transportation, solar energy production, energy storage, and mass manufacturing. The Alien Dreadnaught GigaFactory that had to operate in a vacuum because the robots were so blindingly fast and is 100% solar powered. All other manufacturing in the entire world was to be obsolete and the decades of institutional knowledge and Kanban operations were just vestiges of evil corporations purposely holding back the advancement of mankind.

They already ran out of credits and are still selling every car they build with backorders for months.

Maybe Elon has decided to make employees/customers for his companies.
How hard can it be to build a robot that an take a trumpers job?

That's not slagging. Their finances are public. I like Tesla, but they can do better. They need a CEO that's not running 3 companies at the same time. They need to stop trying to be everything and just be a cool car company with good fit and finish. Focus on high ASP models, dump the 3/Y. The 3 cannibalized S/X sales. The Y cannibalized 3 sales for progressively worse margins. A refreshed S/X lineup with updated interiors that bring them in line with luxury cars in their price range, and a truck that looks close enough to the proto that people don't walk away in the $80k price range and they'll claw their way to sustainable profitability without credits, subsidies, bitcoin, swap credit scams, etc.

@#17 ... Tesla making too many cars is bad. ...

One reason, Telsa seems to tend towards sending cars out the door that are not fully functional or need additional work. It looks to me quite similar to the American car companies in the 1970's when the dealerships, not the factory, bore the brunt of getting a car ready for the consumer. Because of that, Japanese cars companies took over the market in the 1980's. In 1985 my dad bought a Japanese car, and he could not believe that he did not have to take it back to the dealer at all to fix what he called the usual new car problems.

While Telsa seems to be doing quite well in cars nowadays (mainly due to carbon credits?), it remains to be seen how well they will be doing when the real mass production lines kick in for electric vehicles.

There's an adage I learned when I worked in marketing (yeah, I actually worked in marketing in a prior life. I have trouble believing it myself. Anyway....) --- the early entrant in a market has, by definition, 100% marketshare. The ongoing question becomes, how much of that 100% will they lose?

#20 I think Elon has been great for Tesla stock price but not great for the company.
I don't know what Tesla should do to be profitable, but they do need to get ready to compete with the big manufacturers when they get serious about EVs.
Good news for future EV buyers, likely bad news for Tesla stock holders.
