Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, August 24, 2021

Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby said Tuesday that "nobody is making excuses" and "everybody's focused on trying" to improve the conditions at the Qatar air base housing Afghan evacuees after Axios reported the the base was awash with loose feces and urine and a rat infestation.

Al Udeid was never a nice base. We used to joke that the Air Force, which typically maintains very nice living conditions, intentionally made it gross in order to show the other components that the Air Force also has to "rough it."

And that's at a time when we used to spend our weekends downtown at the Marriott Marquis or the Intercontinental Doha. the middle of summer???

Conditions may be wretched but I suspect they are better than being dead.

I think that Biden is taking a bad rap for Americans making bad decisions to stay in Afghanistan until the last minute. What the f... were they thinking? They had to have known that Trump made a deal to get out of Afghanistan on May 1, 2021. They should have left before May 1st. Then Biden wins and stretches the leave date by 4 months; giving the undecided even more time. So what do these dumb asses do? Again they wait until the last minute.

Biden is right! Aug 31 is the deadline for the US leaving Afghanistan. I would not risk one American life or spend one additional dollar to get Americans that ignored all the previous signs to leave the country. You can't fix stupid.

On the other hand, the US should continue to help Afghanis whose SIV applications were not granted because of processing delays. However, after Aug 31, extraction of these SIV applicants should be via covert actions only. Perhaps the US could fund "mules" (aka guides) to find these people and safely escort them out of the country.

Refugees? Like refugees from any other country, they need to find a way out of Afghanistan on their own and apply for refugee status when they arrive in the new country. No special airlift for them after Aug 31st.

The only two people I wouldn't help out of Afghanistan are those two nutty House Reps that went over there on the sly because they didn't believe Biden was telling the truth about the conditions at the airport.

They got there on their own. Let them find their own way home.

As for the rest of your post, Biden is not going to be intimidated by any deadline. The Taliban wants all the Americans, including the U.S. military, out of there for sure but they're also in a hurry to get their economy and their trade agreements up and running and establish themselves as a legitimate government. If that takes few days or so, Biden has the upper hand. The power of the U.S. can make or break the new Taliban government with a swipe of the pen and they know it. That's why Biden can call their bluff.

I don't think that Biden is intimidated. He and I might be of a similar mindset when it comes to dealing with supposedly intelligent people not seeing the hand writing on the wall and acting accordingly. As a result of their willful, poor decisions, they put the lives and treasure of other Americans at risk. There are plenty of people stateside that make good decisions in spite of life dealing them a bad hand that need help.

After fighting off American power for the last 20 years and forcing America to retreat, I don't think that the Taliban gov't gives a damn about American power. There are enough countries like China and Russia that are willing to give the Taliban government a hand up if for no other reason than to tick off the Americans. Toss in the mineral riches of Afghanistan and eventually other countries will come around.

The Afghan people are the way they are, not because of an accident but because they want to be that way. Our 20 year occupation of Afghanistan may have enticed enough Afghanis to want a different life and if so, they will fight for it. Let the Taliban see how it feels to run a government that is under constant attack from insurrectionists.

The job of governing should be interesting for the Taliban, especially in a place the size and complexity of urban Kabul. They did, however, remove one potential troublemaker for them by executing a former Isis-K bigwig when they took over a prison in the capital. See

The only thing I ever saw that united all Afghans was a universal hatred of ISIS-K.

What people in this country need to be ready for are the worldwide headlines announcing that the Taliban has defeated the US.

#7 Fake News!
The glorious conservatives defeated librul tyrants.

US patriots should attack US bases and capture military equipment too. God is on your side. Yes some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make.

"I think that Biden is taking a bad rap for Americans making bad decisions to stay in Afghanistan until the last minute. What the f... were they thinking?"

I was pondering this same question the other day. After thinking about it, I'm sure the answer is different for various groups of people. Some are probably contractors who didn't (and possibly still don't) believe we'd follow through on a permanent withdrawal. Some are probably people who believed there would have been more time and didn't expect the Afghan army or elected government to roll over so easily. Some are probably aid workers who naively think they can salvage the situation even with the Taliban in control. Some are probably veterans and former contractors who settled down there and started a family, as well as naturalized US citizens with ties to extended family there.
