Catherine Rampell: The only halfway decent excuse for delaying coronavirus vaccination -- that no shot had received "full approval" from the Food and Drug Administration -- is now obsolete.

The governor of Alabama has started blaming the unvaccinated for covid rates.

I think the governor of West Virginia has been doing similar things.

What we need is every Republican of note to start sounding like Arnold Schwarzenegger when it comes to getting vaccinated.

I think you'll see that what they say won't make much of a dent in the problem.

I would suggest that the non-vocalized reason for avoiding vaccination going forward is that the GOP would have to admit they were wrong to rally their base against the vaccine.

Given the response fmr Pres Trump received at his recent rally when he suggested that vaccines are good, it certainly seems that the GOP base (or a very significant part of it) are quite set against being vaccinated.

The GOP base seems to be more afraid of the vaccine than COVID.

SMFH.

Hey dope, Trump just said to get vaccinated and he was booed. Yes Trump started the Frankenstein's monster but Republicans are like army ants that get stuck in an ant mill "death circle"

en.wikipedia.org

You are irreversibly attracted to each other's pheromones and are unable to stop the momentum of bad decisions. The only way you can do it is by being shocked away from the spiral by an outside force. Trump started it, but every spiraling media figure and politician who perpetuates the circle has some input, has some involvement. It's the ones who can get outside of the death circle and break up the chain of hubris that are at least not contributing to the problem.

But then again it's hopeless, nothing can be done?

Right?

Come October 2022 plenty of GOP candidates, from dog catcher to senator, will be crowing about how they were early on board with having everyone get vaccinated, and fought vigorously to get all of their constituents the shot. The commercial voice-overs will explain how Jim/Jane Repub was watching out for you folks and your families. And viewers will know that all commercials like that are lying attempts to re-write history. Stay tuned and see...

Modern "conservatism" sees us as ants. A few million dead means little. More ants remain alive, and others can be made. But when death becomes personal they're first in line to be treated like human beings.

I no longer think that any deliberately unvaccinated sumbitch has as much right to medical treatment as my fully vaccinated wife does.

Let them be "free" people and choke on their decisions.

Leviticus 13:45-46

Their impact lies in their actual jobs of legislators to fund, support, get out of the way of solutions.

I could line up 50 joe six pack dudes in Kansas who aren't vaccinated and ask them what they think about their congressman's position on vaccinations and masks.

Not more than 5 would even pretend to know.

Same goes with our governor, and state rep/senator

They don't know.

Most would be shocked to learn their own party's representation supports vaccinations masks, social distancing

Won't change their opinion though.

Nancy Pelosi - who managed to pass legislation during a global pandemic that was widely panned as "Democrats in disarray" and "Nothing is going to get done" - clearly the narrative exists to produce fact-free options for Repubicans to discuss while Democrats are cleaning up their mess...again.

Joe Biden - who is managing a pandemic that was left to him with no reserves, no plan and no support from the literally insane Repubicans who seem hellbent on killing off their own base. He inherited a deal negotiated by Trump and Pompeo with the Taliban to release 5,000 Taliban prisoners, who have now taken over Afghanistan, and was given no plan or intel to pull us out of Afghanistan on the timeline that Trump committed to. That we've managed to evacuate 80K and counting from that country already is already one of the greatest rescue feats the world has ever seen - and again, despite the narrative of "oh, what a disaster, people were falling from the wings of planes" from all the war hawks and media outlets. And with both of those major, inherited, crises he's still managed to do what everyone said was never going to happen...pass a bipartisan infrastructure bill.

I can go on, because we have a lot of excellent leaders in the Democratic Party who aren't falling back on authoritarian theocratic fascism to save them.

Your turn, now that you, typically, reversed the question and failed to provide an answer of your own.

Speaking of the Republican clown show, now that the COVID vaccines are starting to get full FDA approval, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has asked the Texas legislature to codify his orders banning any group or organization in the state from issuing a vaccine mandate even IF its gotten full FDA approval. I wonder what this will mean with respect to the OTHER vaccines which have gotten full FDA approval? You know, like the vaccines for measles, mumps, small pox, TB, rubella, polio, etc. Are organizations, particularly schools, going be forced to stop requiring these sorts of vaccines as well? After all, these vaccines also have full FDA approval and schools, both public and private, have made most of these mandatory for years.
