The school board in Waukesha, Wisconsin, recently made a strange decision. They opted the school district out of a federal program "that would give free meals to all students regardless of family income," the Washington Post reports. The reason? According to one school-board member, children could "become spoiled."

"Spoiled" Little Poor Kids

The Waukesha, WI school district opted out of free lunches because they said poor kids might "become spoiled" by them. I ain't with it.

State sponsored charity should be reserved for the needy. If the private sector wants to dole out to the wealthy, that is their business, though.

If you beat them after you feed them they won't be so spoiled.

"Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die."

"Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell."

Let the beatings begin Wisconsin.

I've always been in favor of free school lunch and breakfast for everyone. A well fed student is better prepared to learn than a hungry one.

You get what you pay for. That's why school lunches are so cheap. They are crap.

Between 2019 and 2020 the federal lunch program went from 19 million down to 13 million

They don't need to be. Fund them better and they will be better but denying kids lunch is worse than serving sub-standard lunches. Most of the lunches that come to school in brown paper bags, created at home, aren't one bit better.

As with Medicaid expansion and most other federal programs such as help for renters today, that benefit the poor, it isn't the federal government cutting it, it's the Republicans on the state level refusing to allow the aid to flow through and benefit their own citizens.
The topic of this thread is exactly that.
