Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Joe Rogan, the UFC commentator and podcast host, has come down with COVID-19, he announced on Instagram. He said he's treating the illness with, among other things, ivermectin, the unproven treatment beloved by anti-vaccine activists and right-wing politicians. In a video, an exhausted-looking Rogan said that over the weekend he tested positive after having felt run down and feverish. "We immediately threw the kitchen sink at it," he said. "Monoclonal antibodies, ivermectin, Z-Pak, prednisone."

Damn. And to think a couple shots and a mask could have prevented wasting all those after-the-fact remedies that may or may not help.

Another deplorable whose influence has led to thousands of deaths.

I wonder if he is due for a "Valentine's" day special like the other Cancervatards with a squawkbox outlet.

I hope he gets better, takes the vaccine and tells his audience to do the same.

BTW good to see you post RCADE. I'm torn between speculating that you are fed up with us here on the DR or you really are Jakester and looking to spice things up a bit, but it turned into Frankenstein's monster.

I'm guessing more so the former.

Honestly, if Joe Rogan curled up his toes and went to the great beyond this country would be a better place. A lot of the bro-science guys would all of a sudden realize that no matter how fit you are Covid is real and it can kill you. Plus it would get rid of the biggest purveyor of bro-science in our country. I've listened to his podcast and I don't get the draw, it's not the least bit interesting, funny, illuminating, nada.

Rogan is ok. I listen occasionally because he had enough draw to get good guests.

But this is stupid. He never seemed to take this very seriously until he got it, then he just freaks out.

They don't even follow their own supposed "science."

Ivermectin is supposedly a prophylactic or very early use. If you're symptomatic you're too late.

That's what irks me about the egomaniacal idiots in the entertainment industry. Most don't know ---- about anything but acting, but they think since they live a privileged life and make millions of dollars their opinion is supposed to matter.

Take your millions and do what Reagan, Eastwood, Bono et al did and run for office. See what people think of your opinions then.

I did sit at the beach with somebody that told me the vaccine was a government plot to make people sterile. 4 days later they had Delta. A day after that they were curled up in a little ball in pain and had to be taken to the emergency room, which took an x-ray then sent them home. I haven't asked if they still think it's a government plot... but I definitely will next time I see them lol.

www.acs.org Discovery of Ivermectin
A National Historic Chemical Landmark
The American Chemical Society designated the discovery of ivermectin as a National Historic Chemical Landmark in a ceremony at Merck & Co., Inc., in Kenilworth, New Jersey, on 2 December 2016.
The commemorative plaque reads
The synthesis and development of ivermectin by Merck in the 1970s and 1980s provided a breakthrough treatment against infectious diseases transmitted
by parasites. This discovery resulted from an international collaboration that screened hundreds of natural products to identify a promising lead compound. Merck scientists synthesized thousands of analogs of this lead and tested them. The result, ivermectin, offered a highly effective treatment for several parasitic diseases affecting a variety of animals. Following its approval for human use in 1987, Merck established a worldwide program to donate ivermectin as Mec- tizan to treat onchocerciasis (river blindness), greatly reducing the prevalence of this debilitating disease. In 2015, Merck scientist William Campbell shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his role in developing ivermectin.

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov Conclusions:

Meta-analyses based on 18 randomized controlled treatment trials of ivermectin in COVID-19 have found large, statistically significant reductions in mortality, time to clinical recovery, and time to viral clearance. Furthermore, results from numerous controlled prophylaxis trials report significantly reduced risks of contracting COVID-19 with the regular use of ivermectin. Finally, the many examples of ivermectin distribution campaigns leading to rapid population-wide decreases in morbidity and mortality indicate that an oral agent effective in all phases of COVID-19 has been identified.

www.al.com

Five of Alabama's most prominent physicians agreed on a video call that using the drug ivermectin to try to treat or prevent COVID-19 is just a bad idea.

"The drug doesn't work against COVID, full stop," said Dr. Michael Saag, an infectious disease specialist at UAB. "You might read on the internet that it works. I'm sorry, that's wrong."

Ivermectin is a drug approved for use in humans to treat illnesses caused by parasites. It's also widely used on animals as a de-worming agent for horses, cows, sheep or other large animals. Demand for the drug has sky-rocketed in recent weeks, thanks largely to rumors of its effectiveness against COVID-19. Meanwhile calls to poison control centers in Alabama and Mississippi have skyrocketed, thanks to people ingesting the form of ivermectin that is intended for use on animals.

"I've personally seen quite a few patients come into the emergency room sick from it," said Dr. David Thrasher, a pulmonologist in Montgomery.

Thrasher and Saag participated in the call with Dr. John Meigs, Alabama State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris and Dr. Aruna Arora, president of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. None said they thought ivermectin was a good idea for COVID patients.

That's in line with a warning from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration released last week titled "Why you should not use ivermectin to treat or prevent COVID-19."

Merck, the drug company that makes ivermectin and profits from sales of the drug even issued a statement that it was not recommended for use in COVID-19 patients.

The drug-maker said in its statement that it had found "no scientific basis" that the drug was beneficial to COVID patients, and "a concerning lack of safety data in the majority of studies" examining the potential use of ivermectin on COVID patients.

Thrasher said his clinic used to prescribe ivermectin (and hydroxychloroquine) to COVID patients, but has stopped as newer studies have shown both drugs to be ineffective at treating COVID.

He affects your life the same way tucker carslon affects your life - by spreading misinformation and vaccine hesitancy to a bunch of morons, who then don't get vaccinated, who then go on to spread covid to more people and give it the opportunity to grow and mutate into something we can't stop. He also helps anti vaxxers and other morons get elected by casting doubt on science and people who believe in it.
