Texas governor wannabe Clayton Williams tried to. It cost him the gubernatorial race to Ann Richards in 1990.

"Rape is kinda like the weather. If it's inevitable, relax and enjoy it."

"Rape is a crime," he said. "And Texas will work tirelessly to make sure we eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas by aggressively going out and arresting them and prosecuting them and getting them off the streets."

Is enforcing rape law something new in Texas?

#5 - Looks like Abbott has his work cut out for him!
I heard him say this and I just stared at him. What an idiot. A total, complete jackass.

Curious, why did Texas women have to wait for this abortion law to be enacted for Abbott to implement some magical power that eliminates all rape?

Texas voters should be asking him why he waited so long...to eliminate rape from Texas. Sounds like he's got some sort of angle, here. Is he receiving kickbacks from the folks that are in charge of eliminating the rapes? Or maybe he was receiving kickbacks from the rapists all this time and that honey pot is now dried up.

So curious.

It's all part of god's plan, right?

Whelp, god did not intend these aborted fetuses to grow into walking, talking people. That's his choice, we're just following the biblical fate that he bestowed to us.

Who do these anti-abortionists think they are? Refusing god's plan outright.

Hypocrites, the lot of them.

Don't you first have to rape someone to get prosecuted and convicted of rape?

Or is something else goin on here?

Maybe eberlysterbombrr can enlighten us on exactly what abbot is thinking

Well, if it's such a snap-yer-finguhs-an-let's-git-er-done-easy-peasy bit o biz, why hasn't Abbott already "eliminated" rape in Texas?

Right....he was Attorney General from 2002-2014 when he was elected governor so why hasn't he already done this in the last 20 years.

As mentioned above, the only way to eliminate rape is to legalize it or decrminize it. What a flipping moron!

Even though it is clear that Abbott was promising something that is impossible for government to achieve and was trying to give himself cover for the fact that he signed a bill that effectively forces people impregnated by rape to carry to term, I have to give Texas credit for reforming their sexual assault laws in recent years. Following the passage of the Lavinia Masters Act, Texas law enforcement now takes charges more seriously. The reform has had the effect of greatly reducing the rape kit processing backlog in the state. It is possible that victims have felt a growing confidence that their accusations will be taken seriously and therefore more likely to report assaults.

That said, this new law in Texas reverses some of that progress. It ties the hands of rape crisis centers in the state by opening up the organizations up to new legal liability and gives perpetrators a new method of seeking retribution against those who assist victims.

Yeah, the idiotic sumbitch probably does think that saying something this stupid gets him off the hook.

Methinks this Abbott guy has seen "Minority Report" too many times and suddenly thinks that his special PreCrime unit can stop folks from attacking women. Hey, Greg-O (as W might name him), what about folks in jail, children and other rape victims? Or is your prevention work focused only on protecting the ladies, except for those who you and your ilk might otherwise judge as being dressed in a lewd, provocative or suggestive manner? To the rest of Texas, stand back while a guy in a wheelchair digs a hole, rolls himself into it and then keeps digging...

Taking away a woman's right to choose, is rape.

Ha! What a joke. So women have fewer rights and the Gov. is delusional. Ok.

Well, with right wingers in Texas going sterile from eating horse deworwer instead of taking the vaccine.. maybe rape babies will be a thing of the past.

"Rape is a crime," he said. "And Texas will work tirelessly to make sure we eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas by aggressively going out and arresting them and prosecuting them and getting them off the streets."

I wish him the best of luck in this endeavor. Does Texas have a lot of rapists roaming the streets, hiding in alleys? Is Governor Abbott aware the vast majority of rapes are committed by a person already known by the victim? The rapists aren't in the streets, Greg, most rapists are already in the house. Of course, Abbott probably believes it's not really rape anyway if the woman goes on a date with the man or is otherwise alone with him.

Abbott means he will make rape legal. Solved.

#24 | Posted by bored at 2021-09-09 06:45 PM | Reply

Abbott, like most right wingers on this site, demonstrates very little understanding of rape. Specifically, what constitutes rape.
