Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

President Joe Biden on Thursday will impose more stringent vaccine rules on federal workers by signing an executive order requiring all government employees be vaccinated against Covid-19, with no option of being regularly tested to opt out, according to a source familiar with the plans.

I think that the progressive's divisive "do-as-I-say-because-because-you're-an-idiot" approach (like post #2) causes conservatives to dig their heels in. I believe a more reasoned, liberal approach would work better. As the old saying goes, "You catch more flies with honey than vinegar". There's truth in that maxim whether the progressives wish to admit it or not.

Hey, Goat, When does the Republican Party take personal responsibility for their and their loved ones' actions and health?

Those of us who are vaxed are taking personal responsibility by doing our part. Tell us some more about how its Liberals fault that Republicans are too prideful and ego-centric to get the vax?

#8 - 100%. The Biden Administration has tried the nice guy approach, and it has finally worked on approximately 70% of the country. It's long past time for sticks. I mentioned a week or so ago that in Washington State, Governor Inslee is mandating that state employees get the jab. That has some Troopers claiming that they're going to quit. They're obviously too stupid, or too caught up in the Reichwing spews bubble to understand that Governor Inslee is trying to save their lives, and more importantly the lives of their families. Honestly, I hope every vaccine and Covid denier gets Covid, just so they learn that it's NOT like the flu. The world would be better without their stupidity!

This is incredibly significant and overdue. I have no problem with it being overdue, however. The more people hospitalized and dying the better received this will be. The carrot got us all it was going to get us, and now it's time for pressure. You don't want to get vaccinated? You get tested every week.

This could significantly up the percent vaccinated in the U.S. We get that number towards the 80% range we could finally start to see this come under control.

We already know that if you're vaccinated you have a 1 in 5,000 chance of coming down with COVID. If you're in a heavily vaccinated state, that changes to 1 in 10,000. If you're not vaccinated, it's really not good. In Indiana, for instance, it's 1 in 14. Hospitalization and death is extremely rare for those fully vaccinated.

Statistically the two mRNA vaccines are ~95% effective, however empirically what we're seeing is far above that. That is good news.

I applaud the Biden Administration and this EO. This is what America needs NOW.

You think anything is going to make this guy get the vaccine?:

"They shafted my President," Bland said. He thought the vaccine was delayed intentionally to hurt Trump, a baseless claim. "They wouldn't give it to him because they know damn good and well he'd be reelected, and there'd be nothing nobody could do. So, they had to swindle around and scheme around and keep it from him, and just as soon as the election was over, Bam! There we got it."
"I'm so bullheaded. You shafted me out of my President. I ain't taking your medicine," he said. "I'll take what they gave him, but I'm not taking yours."

for the willfully retarded. And I mean...
any...empathy. If they are so hell bent
on suffering and dying, 'let them'. If they
are hell bent on taking their innocent kids
with them, 'oh well'. I mean it is not like the rest of us didnt try to talk some common sense to them. However, some people seem to have shown a 'remarkable immunity to it'. Common sense. And let's face it, the world is already an overpopulated ball (with almost 8 billion people on it), it can stand to lose a few million people. Probably a hundred million or two. I mean this is a planet that is already quickly overheating, thanks to the stubborn insistence of man, thanks to sellout politicians, and oil and energy companies that, "refuse to change". Hell...the 'Covidites', are likely to be just the 1st wave of idiot humans to die over the next century or so (if we keep on going like we are going--a hurtling train, rushing towards a looming cliff). So... If they want out so bad, I say, Let them go... It's not like THESE people (these Covidites) will solve any of the multitude of problems that humanity faces anyways. Essentially, they are already dead weight. People that don't reason well, that can't even figure out what is in their own best interest even when the best and brightest doctors and scientists in the land tell them what they have to do to be safe. So I say, let them go. They seem unhappy and seem to want out anyways. The rest of us will still have plenty of problems to try and fix after their gone anyways...

"President Joe Biden is set to announce a sweeping new vaccine mandate for all companies in the U.S. that employ more than 100 workers.

Multiple news outlets are reporting that Biden will make the announcement during his speech on the state of the pandemic tonight at 5 p.m. According to Axios, the Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will serve as the enforcement mechanism for the mandate. Biden will direct the agency to craft a rule that requires large employers to mandate that workers either get vaccinated or submit to weekly testing."

The Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is developing a rule that will require all employers with 100 or more employees to ensure their workforce is fully vaccinated or require any workers who remain unvaccinated to produce a negative test result on at least a weekly basis before coming to work. #49 | POSTED BY SITZKRIEG

Are you trying to say that is somehow different from what I posted above?

Based on the description from the White House, the only thing the businesses will be required to do is verify that unvaccinated employees have a weekly negative test for covid to reduce the risk of employees introducing a dangerous pathogen to their work place. It even sounds like full-time work from home employees may not be subject to the OSHA requirement.

Of course there will be some businesses, most actually, that will see this rule and decide that instead of tracking the weekly testing of non-vaccinated employees that the easiest way for them to comply with it will be to enact their own vaccine mandates for all employees. They would be within their legal rights to do so. My employer announced one several months back.

Then again most US businesses were already planning on enacting such mandates anyway.
"Over half of the employers surveyed (52%) said that by the fourth quarter of 2021, they could have one or more vaccine mandate requirements in the workplace."

Isn't it refreshing to have a POTUS who can change his mind when new facts and details come to light as opposed to one who is so locked into always having to be right in his his addled, simple little mind that he would use a Sharpie to alter a hurricane map rather than just admit that he misspoke? I recall the President saying that the government could not order a nationwide vaccine mandate, but I also recall that early in his term President Biden ordered OSHA to look into whether there was a way to implement a vaccine mandate through rule-making. I know the Biden Administration did not want to do this, they had this crazy belief that when the chips were down, the GQP, the party of insurrectionist traitors, would do the patriotic thing and get vaccinated, but nope, they're not that smart nor are they patriotic in spite of their co-opting of the word "patriots" so here come the sticks, good for POTUS!

So just like above with your statement above about the so-called vaccine mandate, you are excluding the important part.
What Biden has previously said was that he didn't know if thee the President held that authority he would order a review and if the lawyers found that was within the authority of the President that Biden would take such action.

In August of 2020 he said "there's a constitutional issue whether federal government could issue such a mandate. I don't think constitutionally they could." but he then later went on to say that it was and open legal question and he would have a review conducted and if that review finds the President holds that authority then he said "If I did, I would".

These top-down heavy-handed mandates typically fail because it angers people on the fence regarding the vaccines.

I made a personal choice. I looked at the risks and potential side-effects and weighed them against the positives and for me, it was an easy decision. I got vaccinated when it became my turn in line.

As of this week, 75% of the adult population in the United States have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. While this progress represents a marked achievement in vaccinations that has led to steep declines in COVID-19 cases and deaths, vaccination coverage"and the protections provided by it"remains uneven across the country. With the continued spread of the more transmissible Delta variant, cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are rising, largely among unvaccinated people. While as of late July 2021, White adults accounted for the largest share (57%) of unvaccinated adults,

Today's COVID vaccination rate 54.1%. Up from 50.8% August 10. Some of the rise could just be a falling denominator due to the unvaccinated dying off. As GUNSLINGER noted, it's refreshing to have a POTUS who recognizes this as a problem.

I have a question for the 19 Republican Governors who say that they're going to file a lawsuit trying to stop the Biden administration from imposing a vaccine mandate on residents of their states.

Exactly what outcome do you expect to take place if you were to win your lawsuit? I mean, as opposed to what might happen if the vaccine mandate was successful and a significant number of people were vaccinated who wouldn't have been otherwise, what would your lawsuit accomplish if it were upheld and these same individuals who would have been vaccinated weren't? What would this accomplish? What aspect of the general welfare of the nation would be enhanced if you were to prevail in your efforts?

If anyone wishes to respond in support of these 19 Republican Governors, please be honest about what it is that you would expect to happen if they won their case in court, as opposed to what would happen if the Biden administration's policies were upheld?

It was never an "Open Legal Question". You are relying on the same flimsy logic that saw the saw the Eviction Moratorium shot down. It's been stated repeatedly by Biden and Pelosi that it's not legal. They are already well informed by lawyers. They desperately look for 1 or 2 lawyers that will disagree, run with it, and lose the court decision. Again.

#93 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2021-09-11 08:47 AM | Reply

It's also implicitly saying that masks don't work, unintentionally. If you can order vaccines, you can order masks, but they don't have the authority to order masks.

Biden is desperate, his approval is tanking, and has to do something even if it's not going to hold up to court. Again.

#94 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2021-09-11 08:50 AM | Reply

Biden's desperate?

Biden's doing the work that needs to be done. Period.
Masks work. We have tons of data to support that.
Vaccines, however, work far better and if you do get COVID,, vaccination will more than likely save your life.
A mask won't do that.
Biden's also on firm legal ground - over a century of law supporting him.

Very strange posts from you, Sitz.

#95 | Posted by YAV at 2021-09-11 09:12 AM | Reply

Of course masks work. Why aren't they mandated by OSHA but a vaccine is? OSHA mandates masks for all kinds of activities, but not Covid in the workdplace. Not mandating them but mandating a vaccine reinforces the opinions of Republicans.

Pick any synonym for desperate you want. Public sentiment is bleak and his approval dropped significantly because of it. He has to be seen as doing something, so... he's doing something he already said multiple times he can't do. He did not make those statements without consulting his legal team. Neither did Pelosi. If there were 100 years of law supporting it, they would have said that instead of saying they could not. It's setup to fail as badly as the eviction moratorium, which they also noted wasn't legal but did it anyway just to have it shot down.

#96 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2021-09-11 09:20 AM | Reply

I don't think Biden thinks that way. I think he sees this as a 4 year term and he's going to fix things, end the war in Afghanistan, do what needs to be done no matter what. The ones that are worried are the Democrats. Worried that his work, which I totally agree with, is not politically sensitive enough for them in their states, so they have to figure out that line to walk.

#97 | Posted by YAV at 2021-09-11 09:26 AM | Reply

He's lining up for 8 years. It's why he ripped the bandaid off of Afghanistan immediately and reversed on his campaign promises of stabilizing it first. Totally agree with that strategy, but the politics are what they are. Most people won't care in 3 years about Aghanistan, but they will hold inflation and covid economic damage against him.

#98 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2021-09-11 09:29 AM | Reply

Maybe, but I won't. There's no doubt in my mind exactly who is at fault in creating the "9/11 every two days" death count we're in right now.
I'll remember exactly who fought against sanity.
I doubt inflation will be back anytime soon. We'll go through a bit of it when we finally get the economy going full steam, as we're seeing now with it's growth, but there's nothing to indicate it would continue.

#99 | Posted by YAV at 2021-09-11 09:53 AM | Reply

If there were 100 years of law supporting it, they would have said that instead of saying they could not.

Educate yourself Sitz. The SCOTUS ruled in 1905 that the state has the power to mandate vaccines and the law has been repeatedly challenged since then and NEVER overruled nor overturned.

The Dems have always sucked at messaging even when the history and facts are on their side.

And you should know this too: Less than one month ago on August 12th, Amy Coney Barrett denied an injunction and left in place Indiana University's vaccine mandate for their students. LAST MONTH. Trump's own judge.

The law is firmly on the side of mandates as long as they're indicated by acknowledged health experts - that proviso has always been the Court's deference point. And it's language has been precise that individual liberty has limits and can be regulated by public health concerns.

The only thing new about Biden's orders is that he is using the federal government's authority through the OSHA law Nixon signed into existence in 1970.

#100 | Posted by tonyroma at 2021-09-11 10:53 AM | Reply

Exactly, Tony. There's a century and a half of solid legal footing for mandating vaccines. Worse case it's going to take a while to get to the Supreme Court, if it does, and by then (with any luck) this will be a fait au complet, so it won't even matter what the wackier side of SCOTUS decides.

#101 | Posted by YAV at 2021-09-11 11:01 AM | Reply

Today's WaPo editorial is right on point:

[V]accine resisters carry on about violations of their freedom, ignoring the fact that they don't live in a bubble, and that their decision to stay unvaccinated infringes on everyone else's freedom - the freedom to move around the country, the freedom to visit safely with friends and family, the freedom to stay alive.

The Supreme Court made this point more than a century ago, when it upheld a fine against a Massachusetts man who refused to get the smallpox vaccine. In a majority opinion that echoes powerfully today, Justice John Marshall Harlan wrote, "Real liberty for all could not exist under the operation of a principle which recognizes the right of each individual person to use his own, whether in respect of his person or his property, regardless of the injury that may be done to others."

Refusers' hollow appeals to "freedom" are especially hard to take considering that Americans already accept countless restrictions in the name of safety: We are required to wear seatbelts, for example, and to get vaccinations to attend public school.

To those who are still holding out on getting a vaccine: Spare us the appeals to freedom. If you are fed up with masking and distancing and shutdowns and all the other intrusions of a global pandemic, show some patriotism and humanity and get the shot.

The source as near as I can tell are the voices in his head.

As near as I can tell the 17,000 comes from the following

abcnews.go.com

As of a Tuesday report, there are 17,641 unaccompanied migrant minors in government care -- 5,606 children are in CBP custody and 12,035 in the care of the Department of Human and Health Servies, CBP told ABC News.

This is from an article in March 2021

Alot of discussion about overcrowding, testing, separating positive from negative cases.

Nothing about releasing into the general public

www.statesman.com

In April, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security told PolitiFact that it works with state authorities, local authorities and non-governmental organizations to ensure that "100% of noncitizens" are tested for COVID-19 "at some point during their immigration journey." The agency also has told PolitiFact that a negative coronavirus test is required by the federal government before entry to the U.S.

so, there you have it.
