It has been known for a long time that when the boomers retire, there will not be enough replacements for them in the work force. To the tune of 25 million less workers available. There's no mystery here in what is driving the inability to find workers.

When covid started that was the trigger from then on out that drove much of the boomers to retire rather than expose themselves.

Companies will have to get with the times if they expect to find workers to fill empty slots. I hear from many that the employers are still thinking that they can hire for peanuts and no benefits to speak of for that those seeking employment and job seekers should jump at the opportunity. The newsflash on this is that it's now a workers market. They can pick and choose where to go and if the employers are not competitive in their hiring practices, they will not attract workers they need.

So much of this, "we can't find workers" depends on the hiring practices of the employers. For decades, the board members and CEOs have raiding the profits to stuff their pockets at the expense of the workers not getting enough in pay raises to even meet inflation costs. They don't want to give that up. It's the workers, not the CEO and board members that make what the companies can sell. There always comes a time to pay the piper and it has arrived.

Sometimes this is done intentionally to keep anyone who doesn't know someone inside an organization from being hired.

Interesting since it is definitely an employee's/hiree's market. Put more human and less automation into the process. In other words, someone needs to hire some hirers.

HR has been going down the drain for a couple decades now. My wife's employer implemented a new system a year ago. Nobody can use it yet because of all the bugs...

Yes, and sometimes it is done because it is cheaper to make 3 people do the work of 4.

They can pretend to be seeking a new hire but reject all candidates and claim they cant find Mr/Mrs Right.
