Dana Milbank: Robert E. Lee was a stone-cold loser. No general in U.S. history was defeated as unequivocally and as totally as Lee.

These and many other statues erected were put there solely to ease the humiliation of defeat
In other words, the south's feefee's were hurt so we had to be nicey nice to them
Apparently they, they meaning progeny, haven't changed in all this time

However it's not all bad

We get to witness them lose, again

Hollywood and Sylvester Stallone exploited Vietnam butt-hurt with Rambo films.

Non-historians really need to stay quiet about the civil war.

Lee warned the south a fight with the north was not one they could win and when it lost he did what he could to prevent guerrilla warfare that would have gone on for decades.

In short the simpleton who wrote this slap dash -------- should be greatfull.

You do realize that you have asserted a conjecture that is in no way provable and just another fluffy pillow for the leader of a lost cause to land on... right?

Ever hear how long the average civil war lasts?

We should be glad Lee wanted to save lives.

That's meaningless to me.

As it is to all native Americans and the descendants of the tens of millions Europeans who came to America after the civil war

LOL Moses your people wouldn't have had a country to come to if not for Lee and men like him.

Says who? You?

Yup. America wouldn't exist if it were not for the guy who was pivotal in STARTING the civil war

What I want to know is, in another 200
years will the South FINALLY be over the
Civil War, or will this --- just go on forever?

Because, you know, 150+ years and the rest of the nation is largely ready to move the *&+!
on!

Rethugs you love to nay say Libs and Dems on different ---- but Jaysus ---- Christ on a Pogo Stick, if you whined any more about the Civil War you' d win the Snowflakes of the Century Award! It's 150+ years over, you lost then, you are losing the argument now, get over it, and move on! Let the nation heal already!

I think counter culture belies your statement.

The fact this thread exists at all also belies your statement as does the featured article.

Excellent article. Lee was a garbage general and a worse human.

The Jim Crow statues of him don't belong in a museum, they belong in a smelter. Seeing the Richmond one get the sawzall was beautiful.
