One of the final deadly strikes by the US in its 20-year war in Afghanistan has been challenged by investigations in leading US media. The New York Times and Washington Post say the strike the US said targeted an Islamic State operative actually killed an aid worker on daily duties in Kabul.

The War on Terror has done more to destroy the reputation of the United States and motivated more terrorists than any other thing. For every child we kill we create several terrorists. Becoming a terrorist isn't the dream of most young people in the middle east, it is a reaction invaders in their country killing their families.

"Good thing he blew up that 2 year old. She was a serious threat to us."
This attitude is why wars like Afghanistan and Vietnam are unwinnable. People wring their hands and cry crocodile tears about an innocent person dying. In WW2, this didn't happen. If Afghanistan and Vietnam wars were fought like WW2, the US would have won.

Yes. Obviously they targeted the 2 year old and the carload of suicide bombers was just an accident.
Sheesh.

"People wring their hands and cry crocodile tears about an innocent person dying. In WW2, this didn't happen."attacks on their nation more possible for atrocities to be made permissable. We are ot at war with Afghanistan so we have given ourselves hye right to bomb anywhere we want and colateral casualties seemingly donn't matter.

"If Afghanistan and Vietnam wars were fought like WW2, the US would have won." Um, 20 years of bombs. You are a fool if you think extreme violence is the answer to a failed war. You are basically a Taliban. Should heads be chopped off too?

#6 - you took my quote out of context, but you don't need to be told that.

"You are a fool if you think extreme violence is the answer to a failed war. "

Sadly, it takes extreme violence wins wars.

Ample evidence you are wrong. It didn't take extreme violence for Russia to retake Crimea. We didn't have to go to Baghdad to win Desert Storm. When we Qaddafi'd Qaddafi, it was civilians texting airstrike coordinates to NATO command in Italy with geotagged pictures of the tanks parked under freeways with cold engines to hide from our airstrikes.

In this case we committed extreme violence against an aid worker and children. While retreating.

I suggest you pick up Basil Lidell's Hart Art of the Indirect Approach, a decent primer on mobility doctrine winning wars.

Sounds like a signature strike. Which somehow have survived outside scrutiny for the last 3 presidents.

When in doubt, always bomb civilians, it's better than looking weak and ineffective. Killing gives gravitas and prestige.

We are the exceptional nation. If we see farther and others are hurt, that's their problem. We create our own reality.

Dying empires create monsters.
