The Socialist state of China is apparently afraid of sissy men which is ironic given that their president is clearly an utter wimp as proven by his fear of being compared to Winnie the Pooh.

China created a consumer-oriented society with all our capital, and subsequently lost control of the people. The liberal middle-class it made craves more creative diversion. Now, decades later, the Chi-Com party elites wanna to reign them back in and close Pandora's box. All that's gonna happen with this new policy is that they'll bore these people to death. Nobody's gonna watch that stuff.

The ultra-conservative nature of the party elites will actually turn out to be their Achilles'Heel.

China sounds like a place right wing Christians would just love to live in.

#1 I suspect they want the peasants to work more and watch porn and play games less. (They put 1 hour limits on gaming for kids too)

I work with an immigrant from China who argues that authoritarian governments like China are better than free democracies. China is dominating economically. I am not sure which system will prevail. Enjoy your freedoms now.

@#3 Bored

Yep, it's Authoritarianism (China) vs. Individualism (the West) And like you said I'm not sure which system will prevail

- Individualism (the West)

Trumpism is a cult of personality, the exact opposite of individualism.

Just goes to show that both collectivist and "individualistic" societies can attract authoritarians and cults of personality.

#4 I don't know if I would call the West individualistic. I think the defining difference is more to do with fair elections. Both systems have regulations on personal freedom, but democracies supposedly let the majority decide what those are, within a legal framework. Democracies also let people protest and appeal to the courts against unjust laws.

But, democracies are at the mercy of ignorant or deceived majorities. You could argue that the US is an authoritarian state run by the wealthy's bribed designates, selected by democracy theatre.

#5 Yah, wearing the same red cap as everyone else to identify as an individualist broke my irony meter.
Trumpists seem to whorship the idea of no limits on their behavior, but the right to control others. Tribal.
You can't make me wear a mask, but I can say when you kneel...

@ #7 Point taken. Individualism not to be confused with libertarianism. I probably should've said "Free-Thinkers"?

Let's just put it this way. The very fact that we're on a blog-site right now and are able to discuss all these various ideas of what should and shouldn't be, without fear of Government Agents knocking on your door wanting to talk to you , or even apprehending you and locking you up.

That's the difference between us and China. IMHO

#9 That is a big difference for sure. We can publicly criticize our leaders with little fear unless we work for them or a culty fan of them. In China, RCade would not be heard from again and the site would be down after the first winnie joke.

I will say that when I visited China a few years ago, I was impressed at how they went from a the highest smoking country to no public smoking (at least in the big cities) in less than 10 years. They built a Covid hospital in 10 days.
But, the fact that most Chinese daily commerce is done with WeChat and monitored by the CCP is beyond Black Mirror scary.

Rather than go tribal and crow about how much better than China we are, we should look inward and live up to our claimed ideals.

People should be free to do what they want if it isn't hurting anyone. Being American should mean letting other people live their lives, as long as it doesn't harm others.

Boaz should not have been kicked out of the Army for looking at sissy porn.

America is the oldest democracy in the world and isn't going to become a dictatorship and ask your friend why, if China is so great then why is he/she here?

Just consider all the musical artists we would not have been allowed to see if we ever had a autharian government like China. Would Prince have passed the masculity test?

One wonders why he's an immigrant from China, if China is better...

Singapore is quite authoritarian but is widely held up by neoliberal wealth apologists as an example of how a country should be run: thediplomat.com

"America is the oldest democracy in the world and isn't going to become a dictatorship"

What happened to the older democracies?
Some of them became dictatorships.
Some of them became dictatorships with the help of America, the oldest democracy in the world.

The Soviet Union wasn't a democracy though it claimed to be one.

#13 The immigrant is a she. I suspect she is a spy/sleeper agent. I keep dropping hints that I have top secret clearance, but so far no lucky.

Seriously though, her point is that the Chinese government is better at getting things done, not that an individuals quality of life is better in China, unless your are very rich or high up in the party.
