Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, September 14, 2021

Norm Macdonald, whose laconic delivery of sharp and incisive observations made him one of Saturday Night Lives most influential and beloved cast members, died today after a nine-year private battle with cancer. He was 61. Macdonald's death was announced to Deadline by his management firm Brillstein Entertainment.

The comedian's longtime producing partner and friend Lori Jo Hoekstra, who was with him when died, said Macdonald had been battling cancer for nearly a decade but was determined to keep his health struggles private, away from family, friends and fans. "He was most proud of his comedy," Hoekstra said. "He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or any of his loved ones saw him. Norm was a pure comic. He once wrote that a joke should catch someone by surprise, it should never pander.' He certainly never pandered. Norm will be missed terribly."

One of My all-time heroes. I saw him a couple of years ago in SD with Collin Quinn. It was great!

"I'm no doctor. But I'm pretty sure that if you die, the cancer dies too. That's not a loss. That's a draw."

Damn cancer. His death comes as a shock, just like his humor.

He was so great on that BBC show QI, he had no trouble holding his own with the other comedians on the show, always got hearty laughs from the studio audience. We'll miss him...

What the number one thing male convicts fear in prison?

Memorable routine.

Norm hated Polish jokes, but apparently he liked Polish sausage. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
