I don't get why Ferris Bueller was so popular. Maybe its because I'm only 30. It must be an 80s thing-- like stonewashed jeans, VHS tapes and glam metal.

Ferris is basically like a young Donald Trump. A rich white entitled cheater, manipulator, and liar with a trophy girlfriend and a pliable friend he talks behind the back of. But somehow a bunch of idiots in school (future MAGAts) think of him as a "righteous dude" because he doesn't like the school princpal (symbol of the "establishment").

Give him time. He was only 18 for chrissakes. Trump was still sharpening his bonespurs at that age.

"The dude who played the principal was into kiddie porn, so..."

The dude who played Ferris killed a mother and her daughter in a car crash. He was cited for careless driving and fined $175. Sounds pretty Trumpian to me.

Oooh, so glad no one from your generation ever killed anyone.

"Oooh, so glad no one from your generation ever killed anyone."

LOL. Sorry I picked on one of your favorite films. I understand. It can be tough when you discover that one of your most beloved heroes is actually quite similar to one of your most hated enemies.

Yes, of course, you've read my mind and determined this is one of my "favorite" films. How prescient you are. Room in there for Ikiru and Kagemusha, Nostradumb@ss?

"Maybe its because I'm only 30 ... "

Could have something to do with it. The film was made at a different time, for a different audience with an array of different perspectives. Framing the film within the context of decades later is akin to presentism in history.

Is there a movie you do like?

How about Better Off Dead. Same era, same topic.

American Pie. Different era, same topic.
