Freedom is never free.

Health insurance companies should issue their own mandates that either insureds get vaccinated or any costs coming from Covid infections will no longer be covered under any policies - and there will be NO religious exemptions, only exemptions for persons with medical conditions keeping them from being vaccinated. If your religion compels you not to get vaccinated, then religion should be your protection if you catch the disease, not hospitals and insurance companies.

The cost of the reckless behavior from the unvaccinated who end up filling our ERs and hospital rooms shouldn't be passed on to everyone else through premiums paid for health insurance coverage.

Want total freedom? Then take total financial responsibility for what happens to you when you get unnecessarily sick without the help of the vaccines to lessen the virus' effects.

#4 - It's funny, I see tee shirts and bumper stickers with the "Freedom is Never Free" slogan on them, usually proudly displayed by MAGAts. Of course, they mean that we have to go to war to protect our freedom, which of course hasn't been true since WW2. Sadly these dopes don't understand that the real way to secure our freedom is to get the damned vaccine. They're happy to send kids off to die in some unnecessary foreign conflict, but they'll be damned if they get the vaccine.

Heck. For that much money we could build a second unbelievable SoFi football stadium in some red Southern State as an incentive for everyone there to get off their butts and get vaccinated. What a promotion that would be. "Imagine being able to watch your Crimson Tide in a stadium like SoFi? All you need to do is stop being an ignoramus and the shot."

#6 | Posted by moder8 at 2021-09-15 01:09 PM | Reply

Because the vaccine is free, there are many here in Okiehomie who think treatment for Covid is free also. Hospitals are public, right? And we're all about personal responsibility, which means no steps to prevent illness, and no responsibility for its cost. That's what the Covid bailout money was for, right? That's what Okies think...

A friend, who called COVID a "hoax to bring down Trump" and wouldn't wear a mask got COVID and died after 5 weeks on a ventilator. His wife just sold their house to pay bills.

I would agree, except that they spread their disease to others and we all get to pay for their care through our health insurance bills.

I didn't want to embarrass his wife, who's also a friend, with that question.

Now she's a widow and their son fatherless thanks to right wing propaganda.

This really irks me! Hospitals don't write off debt incurred by uninsured patients, they pass it on to the insured patients making all of our insurance rates go up. I had ankle surgery 20 years ago. I got an itemized list of the cost of disposable items used for the surgery. I was shocked to see that they charged my insurance $5 for a disposable razor to shave my leg below the knee. That same razor was available for 99 cents at any grocery store, and because the hospital buys in bulk it likely cost them 50 cents. Now they probably charge $20 for that same razor, which still costs about a dollar. One question for COVID patients seeking treatment at a hospital "are you vaxxed?" If not, give them a tube of horse paste and send them home to die, one less idiot using up our air and water.

I often wonder what my 2004 surgery for a brain tumor actually cost if I had no medical insurance.

Spending two weeks in two different Kaiser Permanente hospitals and one week in a rehab facility must have been expensive. The only bill I received after was for the four ambulance rides at one hundred dollars each.

My Kaiser medical cost now is $75.00 a month and worth it.

#13 That sounds like a sweet plan. Almost as good as a public (socialist) option.

"There is a virus here, it kills people," he said. "The only way we prevent it is get vaccinated, get masks, do social distancing, washing your hands all the time, and not just to think about, 'Well my freedom is being kind of disturbed here.' No, screw your freedom. Because with freedom comes obligations and responsibilities, you cannot just say, 'I have the right to do X, Y and Z,' when you affect other people, that is when it gets serious. It's no different from a traffic light, you put a traffic light at an intersection so someone doesn't kill someone else

Wasted money. Just another reason to do the right thing and get vaccinated if you can.

Equally disturbing is all the vaccines that have been dumped after expiring (not sure if included in that cost).

How about those who haven't been vaxxed, refuse to wear a mask, and continue about their lives as though there is not a pandemic raging in our communities?

Do you also not look down on these people who are willfully hastening the spread of the virus, mitigating the potential of everything going back to normal?

#21 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2021-09-16 07:05 PM | Reply

Send the bill to trump. This is his fault. That would put him approximately 5.7 billion in debt, since he doesn't actually have any money.

YOu dont look down on those who endanger their fellow citizen's lives for no reason other than out of spite that their cult leader lost an election? Why not?

#23 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2021-09-16 07:07 PM | Reply

Because I know the world isn't binary, and not everyone who isn't vaccinated is a trump supporter. So I treat them like people with their own stories as to why. Some are dumb and spout of nonsense and some are regular people with their own concerns

Yet all are choosing the risk the lives of total strangers and possibly help the virus mutate into something we can't solve.

They can take their "concerns" and go live in the middle of the woods with them, away from society where they can do harm.

I know this doesn't fit the narrative of the Left, but how much money are we spending on Vaccinated Covid Patients? reports are now coming out that about 70-80% of hospitalized Covid Patients have been Vaccinated and of those are folks that are obese

Yeah. BC stats for the last two weeks say 81.5% of those hospitalized were non-vaccinated.

why stop there..........if you don't get the Flu shot, drive to fast, anything that will endanger others the insurance companies should charge them more?

maybe we should monitor folks and charge them that eat to much fast food / junk food, don't exercise, etc....all these add up to a lot more than $5.7B

#21. Fair enough question.

I don't look down on them by default, given more facts, like being just a rabid contrarian because Trump. Then yes I will. If they are advised of avoiding most vaccines because of underlying conditions they have, then no I will not look down on them.

#35 | Posted by kwrx25 at 2021-09-17 01:21 PM | Reply

Look down on them?

If you have health insurance, you will be the one picking up this tab

In other words, the insured will be the ones paying the 5.7 billion

You damn right I can look down on them. Their irresponsible behavior is going to negatively impact EVERYONES premiums

Yup, I'm looking down on them, and I will berate them all i please
