According to CDC data, California has about 95 new cases over 7 days per 100,000 people. The U.S. as a whole is at nearly three times the rate of California at about 251 new cases over seven days per 100,000 people.

Listen to the rubes and you get emanations of this weirdly twisted take on Jeffersonianism: Everyone wants to be like us, living in "the Heartland" (whatever that is wherever it may be found). If these GOP yammerings had any strong roots in the real world, LA and NYC would be empty. They're not.

California is leading the country, but we're still well short of where we need to be, because California has large swaths of Trumplicking Repubicans who are insane and want to kill everybody with covid. At 68% vaccination rate, being the best is still relative compared to what success actually looks like.

Getting a D in a class full of F students isn't anything to be proud of.
