Google said it is buying a Manhattan office building for $2.1 billion, one of the clearest signals yet of big technology comnpanies' growing appetite for office space, even as these firms embrace remote work.

By their metrics this is a big, big number. The sellers must think they have identified the greater fool by their sale. I finance commercial property and have to remind my team that in our work we are not in the business of validating someone's purchase decision"the Alphabet board already did that here. Perhaps the wildest part is that Alphabet will just write a check. Wow.

Too bad Google didn't buy something closer to the Cornell Tech camps, on Roosevelt Island ...
