Former president Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against the New York Times, three of its reporters and his niece Mary on Tuesday, accusing them of hatching an "insidious plot" to obtain "confidential and highly-sensitive records" for a 2018 investigative report published by the paper which detailed allegations that Trump had "participated in dubious tax schemes." The suit, filed in Dutchess County, New York alleges that the New York Times convinced Mary Trump to smuggle records out of her attorney's office and turn them over to the newspaper. According to the suit, Mary Trump carried out these alleged actions despite having signed a confidentiality agreement in 2001 as part of a settlement to a legal dispute around the will of Frederick Trump, the former president's father and Mary's grandfather.

Mary Trump's response? "I think he is a ------- loser, and he is going to throw anything against the wall he can."

"Reacting to the suit Mary Trump told the Daily Beast that her uncle was a "------- loser," adding: "The walls are closing in and he is throwing anything against the wall that will stick."

Well said. The Donald basically stole most of his wealth from other relatives so why wouldn't they want to get even with that crook? BTW, I still think confidentially agreements should be illegal. If there is criminal wrong doing there should be no legal obstacle to reporting it.

If this suit goes forward (wanna take any bets?), Trump may be opening himself up to being deposed, which probably isn't what he had in whatever's left of his mind.

I guess this is the sort of legal advice you get when you don't actually pay your lawyers.

1) It's just the sort of thing Trump always does.

2) He's sweating bullets.

3) Both.

#2 Spot on Danni. Attorney client privilege does not protect crimes involving the lawyer. Having laws that punish victims of a crime for telling the truth about the crime is at least as wrong.

He will sue to stop the deposition.

When that fails, he will ignore the requests.

Then he will drop the lawsuit.

The only goal is to delay and obfuscate.
