...But it was something of a clandestine meeting, with some politicians only attending after organizers promised they would stay anonymous.

That's how sensitive this subject still is in the Republican Party post-Trump. The former president called human-caused climate change "a hoax," withdrew from the Paris Agreement and railed against water-conserving showerheads that failed to keep his hair perfect.

But as younger voters in particular demand a response to the crisis, things are changing, said Chris Barnard of the American Conservation Coalition (ACC), a group of young conservatives that helped organize the gathering in Salt Lake City. "If they want to stay relevant, they need our vote," said the 23-year-old. ...

"Are US Republicans finally waking up to the climate crisis?"

You kidding me?
They're waking up to the fact that young people know it's true.
They're not trying to fix it.
They're trying to find ways to get sane people to stop caring about it.

If they actually paid as much attention to the Military as they pretend they do, they would be following the Military's example in preparing for the results of climate change.

But they don't and they aren't.

"Eighty international scientific societies have endorsed the concept of a primarily human-caused climate crisis that is already starting to threaten the health and well-being of millions, and soon to be billions, of people in the next few decades. The total number of scientific organizations that dispute this is zero. If you were watching a basketball game where the score was 80 to 0, with one minute left in the fourth quarter, and you decided to bet your entire nest egg on that losing team, no one would argue that you were not severely delusional. ... Inability to discern reality is the hallmark of schizophrenia.

It is getting very difficult for Republicans to continue to deny climate change. It just makes them look stupid, especially those from a state suffering from climate change.

But so what? Their agenda will never be to slow (let alone stop) any human activities that continue to accelerate climate change. They want cheap band-aids.

No. Next question.

The GOP is FAR too entrenched in the Fossil Fuel Sector's
money (ahem, lobby) [really it's the money] to give much
of a hoot about (you know) planet earth...

The Fossil Fuel Sector is probably the largest single
contributor to the GOP (other than other rich people)
that I can think of...

Waking up?
To the extent it affects the bottom line, perhaps.
Otherwise?
Can't.
They lack the requisite critical thinking tools.

So maybe they'll wake up to the covid crisis in another 40 years since it only takes them 40 years of lying and denial to wake up.

"Speakers had to shout over heckling by a group of older men who waved signs reading: "There is no climate crisis.""

"There are lots of people who lack education but who have great natural intelligence and a desire to learn, including most of the people I grew up with. Stupid is different. To win a degree in stupid, you have to willfully reject facts in favor of superstitions, myths, fears and conspiracy theories. And then get all your news from fake or biased news sites targeted at the stupid."

#13 - people often confuse education with intelligence.

My father never went to a day of college, yet he is very well spoken, writes very well, was very successful in his career and is a multi-millionaire.

Yet I've known many well educated people, some graduates of top universities, who were complete idiots.

But. He did attend school. Right?

Learned to read, write and do arithmetic?

Got an education.

Go sit in the corner. Stupid.

No they didn't. They met to make up lies to prevent any actual action to deal with global warming. If it costs 10 cents they will oppose it. Conservatives working to deal with Climate Change is a ---- joke.
