...Instead, Dr. Ladapo advocates for the controversial idea of embracing "the reality of viral spread" to achieve herd immunity.

"Florida will completely reject fear as a way of making policies in public health," Ladapo said in a press conference Tuesday after DeSantis announced his appointment. Fear, he said, has "been unfortunately a centerpiece of health policy in the United States ever since the beginning of the pandemic and it's over here. Expiration date: it's done."

Florida has been one of the hardest-hit states in the pandemic, particularly amid the current wave driven by the hypertransmissible delta coronavirus variant. In early August, the Sunshine State accounted for 20 percent of all COVID-19 cases occurring in the US. Throughout the wave -- which is finally receding in Florida -- DeSantis has opposed vaccine mandates and fiercely fought mask mandates in schools....

"Fear" has not been the health policy of those states who wanted to protect their people from the dealdy virus.

Gov DeSantis seems to be using the word "fear" because he does not want to acknowledge what his policies really are: intentional ignorance.

Is this the thread Trumpers come to tell us both parties are the same and Republicans bear no responsibility for the fact the pandemic is still out of control in America.

Or is this just the thread they ignore and Gracie keeps posting about how wonderful DeSantis is in the nooner.

If there's any state that needs a recall election, it's this one.

#6-Vis. This is the thread where the posters believe in science and follow mask and vaccine policies, regardless of race or education level. Should I simplify further?

@#6 ... claim to know more than a Harvard educated professor. ...

I don't see that.

What I do see are people weighing his claims against those of the significant majority of the medical community, and forming an opinion based upon that.

The Republicans did a similar thing with climate change. They found a few outlier scientists to deny climate change existed, and then gave those outliers a megaphone.

The Republicans did a similar thing with climate change.

The tobacco industry did the same thing. Same with the oil industry and automotive industry. And a lot others. (Monsanto)

A few people will say anything and find whatever results necessary, for the right amount of money.

But when the majority, from all around the world, all agree on the same thing. You can trust they're not all bought.

He should have been asked whether he was vaccinated. He should also have been asked the cost of a pound of cure compared to an ounce of prevention. He might also have been asked how he would rate his personal safety as an educated northern black man while in a room full of Florida men angry about the death and illness of their children ...

Man, this poses quite a dilemma for Trumpers.

Take a vaccine, or obey some Black guy from Nigeria.

I think they'll go for the vaccine.

DeSantis sure isn't 'pro-life.' He's pro-death. What a f-ing moron to do this in the middle of a pandemic.

Way to NOT care about your constituents! He only cares about himself like Trumper politicos do.
