Police should not be defunded. They should be paid better.

That said, we should get higher quality people to be police and expect more from them. Standards should be very high and zero tolerance for intolerable behavior. That will be in conflict with the unions, but that's too bad. Bad apples should be thrown out.

You get what you pay for. That maxim holds true with police pay, too. You think cops are bad now? Pay them lesss and see what happens. Why people think defunding the police would help make them better is beyond me. It's an idiotic concept.

Most departments have certain cops who specialize in de-escalation. Also, de-escalation can also result in escalation. Are you going to arm the social workers? Are you going to put social workers on beat duty as those situations usually require quick action. "Uh, wait for the social worker to show up before you use your gun in a manner you'll regret."

#37 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2021-09-23 05:06 PM | Reply

Well, looks like we have the clearest evidence yet that murders have nothing to do with poverty levels as poverty rates were brought way down and yet murders skyrocketed in 2020/2021. So, no more handouts on that justification.

What happened in 2020/2021 is the activation of the Democrat base which includes the violent criminal class. That is why they are constantly arguing that their voting rights need to be restore - it is not so they can then go vote GOP. If you are a Super Predator not voting for Joe Biden, then you ain't black.

It's interesting how easy it is for people to assume that the increase in murders has to do with some criminality from outside the family circle. 2020 saw an overall drop in crime but gun sales soared and family abuse increased.

I'm guessing the murders have more to do with the concurrent uptick in domestic violence among gun owners.

Gun-loving couples shooting one another, just as Gawd planned it.

Republicl0wn's don't like to admit that a gun owner is wayyyyyyyyyyyy more likely to kill one of their own family during some emotional meltdown than to defend themselves from a criminal. It's a fact.

Reminds me of the days of it's not raping if she's your wife... it's not murder if she pissed you off.

Defunded or not... all cops suck and keeping one spouse from killing the other after the fact... which is usually how it goes.

Top Adviser to Richard Nixon Admitted that 'War on Drugs' was Policy Tool to Go After Anti-War Protesters and 'Black People'

drugpolicy.org

""You want to know what this was really all about," Ehrlichman, who died in 1999, said, referring to Nixon's declaration of war on drugs. "The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I'm saying. We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.""

Especially when this 'quote' was used many years after his death and is disputed by his own family. Maybe the author has audio he can share, but it looks like the entire argument you are making is based on a fabricated quote.

That said, that you don't provide a link to the % felons with solely weed possessions proves my point. The Dem felon base is made up of people unjustly imprisoned for weed. Domestic violence is up across the board.

But yeah... since you brought it up... when men kill their wives guns are number one. Fast efficient messy.

oh and yeah... men are more likely to kill their wives than vice versa the entire ------- world knows that.

and another thing... before covid, an average of 10 kids a day died via firearms... that's up too.

before covid suicides via fatal bullet wounds occurred twice as often as murders.

Yes. Mainly gun violence committed by guys 18-25 shooting mainly for drugs, gangs, or racial hatred fueled by BLM and Dems firing up their base for the 2020 election. This was enabled by the MSM making violent criminals into heroes and demonizing police which, along defunding and generally them fearing legals actions, led to less community policing. This was on full display with CHAZ in Seattle - losers shooting and killing their own.

For each 10% jump in home ownership of guns, the risk of someone in the household being killed rises by 13%. The risk of a nonfamily member getting murdered is increased only 2% with gun ownership, researchers found.

The risk of homicide goes up for both males and females in homes with guns, but women are more at risk, he said. Only about 1 in 4 murder victims is a woman, but women account for about 3 out of 4 victims of intimate partner homicide, Kivisto added

I think we need to a "Go Fund Me" for you to buy that new iPhone with mental illness detection. Set it up and I will gladly donate. Seriously dude, a huge % of liberals and ultra-left sufferer from mental illness as diagnosed by mental health professionals - about 50% of the young ultra-liberals. Your friend group may seem normal to you because they are also suffering. But, to the normal people of the world, you sound scary deranged. I am all for gun rights - but I would try to stop you from getting one.

#67 - exactly. One of the most liberal people I've met on this site identified as a conservative. That would be Eberly. He is tolerant of other opinions, will honestly debate them, doesn't shy away from facts he doesn't like and doesn't get into the petty name calling as progressives do when they disagree. The only exception I've seen to that is with trolls like snoofy or people who contribute nothing, but whose every response is a variation of "you're an idiot" like speaksoftly, chieftutmoses, legallyyourdead, etc.. We all know who they are. (I do. I have them all killfiled. That's the only thing that makes this place tolerable)

He may disagree with the left on certain issues, but philosophically he is very liberal. The progressives should take a lesson from him and let the Democratic party return to their liberal roots.

Bitter, vindictive, radical, bellicose people like AOC, Maxine Waters etc. are what is destroying the party. Think about it -- that party couldn't put up someone who could beat Trump. 2020 should've been a slam dunk for the Democrats. But as they keep proving, they have a wonderful knack for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. See also the GOP midterm landslide of 2010.

Now watch the progressives form their wagons in a circl and talk about me rather than try to help their party by fixing things. It's their way.

Gun violence is a feature, not a bug.
You celebrate murder: "What happened in 2020/2021 is the activation of the Democrat base which includes the violent criminal class."

That's success to you, as measured by an increase in the murder rate.

I don't celebrate it - it is what it is. This is the logical extension of your liberal policies as much as open air shooting galleries and defecation. Just like tent cities that follow every liberal city...well, except in the neighborhoods of the Democrat elite. Take a dump in front of a storehouse on Fremont street and you are 'just being San Francisco' but take a dump in front of Nancy Pelosi's compound and you will be charged with a crime. Did you ever stop and wonder why the Democrat elites that vote for this nonsense then hide in gated communities with private security that stops them from having to live around the filth their policies create?

Look at Maxine Watters - represent a poor, black community but lives in one of the richest and whitest. Joe Biden thinks 'you ain't black' if you don't vote for him - yet, he lives in his gated compound where the closest thing to a black person is the white lawyer his crackhead kid likes to call the n-word. These are the people you look up to and take your marching orders from - why? You claim that you are the party that values education and 'trust the science' and then elect inexperienced bartenders and political activists like Pressely and Corey Bush. There still is a youtube video up of one of your members worried about the island of Guam capsizing if we sent more troops there....

Yet, you line up behind them like the unthinking morons that you are and blame the GOP as your neighborhoods become more and more unlivable despite 100% Democrat control....until you finally given in and move to a red state, then start mindlessly voting for the same failed policies.

I will end with this - if you think legalizing weed is a good thing that won't have negative societal implications, you are naive beyond words.

"I don't celebrate it"
Yeah, you did.

"I will end with this - if you think legalizing weed is a good thing that won't have negative societal implications, you are naive beyond words."

Do you think criminalizing weed doesn't come with negative societal implications?
You actually think legalization is worse than prohibition? How in the world did you arrive at that conclusion!
Bonus question: Does your love of prohibition apply to alcohol as well?

#81 | Posted by snoofy at 2021-09-23 11:15 PM | Reply

"#81 | POSTED BY SNOOFY"

First I would like an answer to my question above - why is it that every one of your Dem leaders live as far away from the filth their policies result in as possible? Did Obama move back to the Chicago South Side? Did he send his kids to public school? Just curious as your leaders run to the whitest, richest places they can find - both to live and to send their kids for education yet demonize those same institutions. Why is that?

As to your weed question, prohibition is preferable in a system with a welfare state. If there was not taxation supporting people's poor lifestyle choices, then ingest whatever you want. Weed destroys people's potential - period. I would apply the same to alcohol and drugs - take as many as you want, but they don't come looking for government handouts.

So, given your pro-weed position, does this extend to heroin as well?

"So, given your pro-weed position, does this extend to heroin as well?"

All drugs should be decrminialized.

Millions of people are on heroin, it's one of the few drugs you can do and live a normal life.

There's no reason for the people on heroin to risk overdosing on fentanyl.

Perhaps the difference between us is that I value human life and you do not.

I value human life even more after it's born, and you do not.

Very sad commentary on how you view the world Snoofy. I suspect drug use has led you to where you are now in life as well. Federal taxes can pay for the military, post office, management of federal lands, interstate highway system, food safety, and should cover very little else. SS, Medicare, Medicaid, any transfer program should be eliminated.

"SS, Medicare, Medicaid"

SS is an equilibrium equation.

Medicare has been based on premiums paid all one's working life, for a reduced premium in retirement.

Medicaid is caring for the destitute, rather than leaving them in a field to die.

Please explain why we should get rid of each.

Most recently he's proven he doesn't know the difference between 7.4 million and 74 million...which really screws up conclusions when it's your numerator.

Yeah - all ponzi schemes are during the 'early investor' stage. It never should have been started in the first place. Don't even get me started on SSDI

"Medicare has been based on premiums paid all one's working life, for a reduced premium in retirement."

Yep - never should have started in the first place. As for your premiums, bad bet suckers. It is going bankrupt in less than 10 years regardless so just end it now.

"Medicaid is caring for the destitute, rather than leaving them in a field to die."

I fully understand. Which is why it is subsidizing poor life choices. If you are poor because of your drug use, I don't want to pay for your medical care just like you don't want to pay for the medical care of the unvaccinated even though they have insurance they paid for to provide the benefits.

"Please explain why we should get rid of each.

None of these programs are authorized under the US constitution. Income taxes should be eliminated at the same time. We need to massively shrink the size of the Federal government back to its authorized purposes. We are going bankrupt as a nation - so, we can start to deleverage now or be forced to do it in a way that will guarantee war and mass destruction.

" all ponzi schemes are "

If you think SS is a Ponzi scheme, you don't understand Ponzi schemes, which are always opaque, and have no ability to reach equilibrium. You also don't don't seem to understand the concept of an equilibrium equation. Try this: one point added to both the worker's side and the hirer's side would put the SS equation into equilibrium into perpetuity (which in actuarial jargon is 75 years).

"(Medicaid) is subsidizing poor life choices."

Are you advocating letting people die in the street?

"None of these programs are authorized under the US constitution"

Depends on your interpretation of "general welfare", doesn't it?

"Income taxes should be eliminated at the same time"

No payroll taxes, and now no income taxes?!? How would we pay for government?

"We need to massively shrink the size of the Federal government"

After GW Bush enlarged it by record proportions, and reset America's fiscal sights from surpluses to deficits...who did you vote for? And when Trump and the Republicans proposed a $2.3 Trillion tax giveaway while running record deficits...who did you vote for?

Greed.

The teachings of supply side jesus tells us that the poor and low earners should just starve, live in the streets and die from treatable diseases so that taxes can be eliminated on the wealthy.

Get rid of the IRS, taxes are theft. Police, teachers, firefighters, highway crews, the armed forces...they're all free. We don't need any mechanism to pay for them.

It's the time tested cancervative mantra of "I've got mine...eff you" message to society.

What you refuse to understand is that ends up costing more. The murder rate went up 30%. Do you think that saves the taxpayers money?

Or maybe you do understand that it costs more. Because you think it's a good use of taxpayer money to be cruel to people, even if it costs more than being compassionate to people.

You want government to pamper the rich, but even more than that, you want government to punish the poor, because poor people are wicked. After all, if they made good decisions, they wouldn't be poor.
