Tim Murphy: On Tuesday, CNN published a two-page memo written by a lawyer for then-President Donald Trump's re-election campaign during the run-up to the January 6 certification of the Electoral College results.

Reading this op ed, I couldn't help thinking, "But her emails!":

The memo's author, John Eastman, is a lawyer--at the time, he was even a tenured professor at Chapman University School of Law--but what he created is not a legal document. It is by its nature extra-legal: It is a blueprint for a coup.

Eastman anticipated the possibility that some people would be mad. "Howls, of course, from the Democrats," he predicted in bullet-point four, immediately following the line, "Pence then gavels President Trump as re-elected." Yeah, man, no kidding.

. . .

January 6 happened on live TV. But what was described on those couple of pages is what all the stunts and subterfuge were building up to--notes, as it were, on a criminal ------- conspiracy.

I think the mem0 -- and any documentation having to do with 1/6 -- should be made public. Let people talk about what they want after that.

Unlike many others, I don't mind all facts being made public and reviewing them. In fact, I welcome it.

A 2 page version of the memo ("the preliminary draft") was published earlier this week by CNN. The 6 page version of the memo ("the full memo") was subsequently published by Business Insider:

#3 - thanks for the link.

Of course we should.

The lame ass excuse of "it was a draft" doesn't in any change the gravity of the fact that there was a planned attempt to overthrow the election and, by extension, the government.

Trumpers have been quite quiet about it.

The document seems to put a lot of emphasis upon the [failed] lawsuits alleging voter fraud and other voting problems.

I wonder if those lawsuits were expected to fail, but existed as part of a strategy that would see then cited anyway by this expected (next step in the strategy) document?

Do they not understand that if Trump's insurrectionists had been successful they would have slaughtered every reporter in the country?

The lawsuits gin up the base.
Their failure shows how deep the Deep State goes.

Gin up and create distrust in the election process, greasing the skids for all the voter suppression laws and efforts. A move towards overturning the will of the people and providing power to the state legislatures so they can appoint the president they want, not the one the people want.

You must be talking about sources like breitbart and oann, who would never release this memo, and are burying the fraudit result in arizona.

Speaking of which...

Sidney Powell Countersues Dominion After Failing to Get Its Case Against Her Dismissed

...Attorney Sidney Powell, who filed multiple failed lawsuits in an effort to overturn former President Donald Trump's 2020 election loss, filed a countersuit against Dominion Voting Systems late Friday"seeking $10 million in damages.

Powell, like a number of other Trump allies, promoted bizarre conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. She alleged that Dominion Voting had conspired with deceased Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, the Chinese Communist Party and foreign hackers to rig the election in favor of President Joe Biden. The pro-Trump lawyer did not provide evidence to substantiate the claims.

Dominion Voting filed a defamation lawsuit against Powell seeking $1.3 billion in damages. Thus far, Powell's efforts to get that suit dismissed have failed, and on Friday she filed a countersuit against the company.

In the new court filing, Powell alleged Dominion was "diverting attention from the failings of its election equipment, trying to change the 'narrative' that was exposing Dominion's serious flaws and wrongdoing, and avoiding post-election inquiry into voting irregularities in the 2020 election" by suing her....

#12-Haven't all her failed lawsuits BEEN about the equipment? This should be a very short lawsuit.

Remember when Trump was yelling at Georgia Secretary of State and trying to get him to not find all the votes needed to win but just more votes?

Trump was trying to create a situation in which he could prove election tampering had taken place and demand that he remain president until the whole matter was sorted out even though the only election tampering that took place would be in his favor.

Eastman, Dotard, Bannon, and anybody else encouraging the attempted coup on 1/6, knowing that the goal was to stop the transfer of power, all need to be indicted for seditious conspiracy. Chop chop DOJ. Here's the smoking gun.

And the argument about the MSM ignoring the memo is a good one; during the Drumpf error, the beltway press tried to normalize his behavior, claiming he would grow into the job or his cabinet would keep the Presidency on the rails. The executives liked the obese orange oaf because he was good for ratings and subscriptions, the reporters liked him because he was easy to cover, he would generate headlines with his stupid pronouncements over chopper talk, with his gross incompetence, criminality and racism, and the WH leaked like a sieve, he was always good for an outrage of the day. Now it seems they are pining for a return to those days because Dotard made their jobs easy, they don't seem to understand how to cover a competent WH that doesn't leak.

Old delusional man biden promises that wont happen. Trump losing will make the republican come back to reality.

We needed a democrat to save america from these fascists. Biden just wants to sweep them under the rug.

I just discovered something interesting about John Eastman, the lawyer who wrote the coup memo: he was a clerk for Justice Clarence Thomas and his speaking role at the 1/6 insurrection rally caused some consternation among participants in a "Thomas Clerk World email group":

The internal discord concerned pro-Trump postings and former Thomas clerk John Eastman, who spoke at the rally and represented Trump in some of his failed lawsuits filed to overturn the election results.

If the lawsuits succeeded Lewzer would be installed by the SCOTUS against the wishes of the people of GA, PA and AZ.

If the lawsuit failed Lewzer would have another DERP STATE whining point.

Either way he got what he wanted and the only ones who paid a price were the numbnuts kracken legal team who are now facing massive civil suits while simultaneously losing their law licenses and what little reputation they had.

Robert Costa: "[O]ne key thing about the memo that is being lost is that it was not just a memo, some sort of paper passed around. It was a document and plan that sparked a Jan. 4 meeting with Trump, Eastman and Pence/aides in Oval, then the final Jan. 5 Oval meeting."

The "TRUMP COUP MEMO" aka "Eastman Plan" should be an occasion for a giant, collective, national time out. . . .The fact that a plan was developed and the defeated President was engaged in executing it for the purposes of stealing

an election he squarely lost is an unconscionable betrayal of our country. The Confederates who sat at his right arm as he plotted to destroy the Republic from within are known to us all. There is no other moment in American history where the revelation of such treachery would

not have induced the greatest possible National outrage.

Memo = Blueprint

#24 | Posted by Doc_Sarvis at 2021-09-28 07:35 AM | Reply

Please, sir, can we have another 4 years?:

Beltway Press Can't Wait For Trump To Return, Really

A smoking gun document represented a chilling blueprint that provided step-by-step instructions to overthrow an election. Richard Nixon resigned from office for doing far less than was outlined in the memo. Yet leading news outlets gave the Trump story a pass--some of the same news outlets that spent the summer weirdly fixated on how many trips to his Delaware home Biden was taking as president.

One year ago when Trump was first asked at a press briefing if he'd agree to a peaceful transfer of power following the election, regardless of the results, he refused to do so. "We're going to have to see what happens. You know that," he said. "I've been complaining very strongly about the ballots. And the ballots are a disaster."

. . . Trump's initial threat to not abide by the election results wasn't treated as big news. Just like last week's coup memo wasn't big news. . . . A dangerous autocrat who's devoted to wrecking the American election process is waiting in the wings to become the GOP nominee in 2024, and the Beltway press can't wait.
