Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, September 30, 2021

The alleged crimes committed by the Trump Corporation and Weisselberg relate to the conferring of privileges like luxury apartments, private schools, pricey cars, even parking spots. The charging documents and interviews with former prosecutors and white-collar defense lawyers indicate that the District Attorney is accumulating evidence of pervasive tax fraud. The case goes to the heart of what made - and still makes - Trump Trump.

People familiar with Trump's legal battles also took notice of one element of the allegation: Weisselberg is described as making changes to something called "Donald J. Trump's Detail General Ledger." If true, the allegation would mean that, in addition to Weisselberg and Trump's accountants keeping a set of records detailing the company's finances, there was another ledger, one specifically maintained, the name implies, for Donald J. Trump. "My jaw literally dropped when I saw that," Tristan Snell, a former New York assistant attorney general, who investigated claims of fraud against Trump University that resulted in a twenty-five-million-dollar settlement, said. "If there was a ledger for him, it blows up the notion that Trump didn't know about it - it means there was a set of numbers prepared for Donald Trump." Snell said the public disclosure of the separate ledger's existence is a signal from the prosecutors to the former President: "We have your ledger."

If Weisselberg and Trump's company lose the case, it may be because Trump's desire not to write things down was overtaken by his desire to make certain that he was not paying his longest-serving and most loyal aide any more than they had agreed upon.

For those who keep wrongly claiming that Trump somehow will never be held accountable, read the above paragraphs with clarity. Copious evidence of Donald's direct criminality is already being adjudicated. It's only a matter of time before the walls of Trump's seeming legal invincibility will start crumbling from every direction, one after another.

Been waiting 5 years for that to actually come true.

Considering the man is white and wealthy and Republican, I am NOT holding my breath.

"Been waiting 5 years for that to actually come true."

I will believe it when I actually see it. Even then I will doubt it.

Cyrus Vance Jr. is out in a few months. His replacement may not be any more harsh on them Trumps and Weisselberg than was Vance. Letitia James, on the other hand, appears to be out for two pounds of flesh. The key person in this case will be Weisselberg. Flipping him may be very, very hard and he may need to find himself in Attica or Dannemora with some scary cellmate to have his come to Jesus moment. It will happen when Alan figures out that he will die in prison and his family will not be supported or protected by his ex-boss. Only at such time will he open up, after which time the secrets told will draw in many Trump family members, as well as other drawn in to make them talk too...

And now there's a rumor that Weisselberg may have been keeping TWO sets of books. That's not going to go down well:

Legal Expert: Detail In Weisselberg Indictment Could Be Bad News For Trump

According to the New Yorker, the alleged existence of a separate ledger for Trump has caught the eye of legal insiders.

I think at this point whether or not Weisselberg flips is almost irrelevant as it regards what will happen to Trump after this first trial. Weisselberg's prosecution - especially if it comes with testimony from other Trump company insiders - will set the stage for publicly displaying specific evidence that will also confirm Trump's guilt and complicity in fraud. Once (If) Weisselberg is found guilty, Trump's prosecution will become a fait accompli with the dual set of books putting him in the same situation Al Capone found himself in nearly a century before.

And in my opinion, once the first Trump indictment is filed, the floodgates will open and we'll see many more follow in both federal and state courts. But I think all the prosecutors working on Trump-related cases understand that they have to bring air-tight, slam dunk cases against him because of who he is and the fact that many prospective jurors will only convict him if the evidence against him is completely incontrovertible. That is one of the reasons all of these potential cases are taking what seems like an inordinate amount of time without any indictments being filed.

Patience is a virtue if one wants to see Trump get what's coming to him.

It would actually be better if Trump had to defend himself in civil court because you don't need a unanimous jury verdict, the rules of evidence are less rigid and the usual punishment is having to pay a judgement and legal fees. Having to pay money will hurt Trump more than the threat of jail time, both figuratively and literally. Whatever type of court he finds himself, Trump's ego will not allow him to be branded a LOSER.

And with that in mind, material uncovered in criminal trials can be used in civil lawsuits, so any prosecution of Trump underlings could be a gold mine for those who would prefer to use the civil courts to impose their revenge on Trump and the Trump Organization.

Except for tax fraud, which sounds like their biggest ace in the hole, I think the whole objective is to destroy Trump Org. and, by extension, render Trump, et al financially bankrupt and out of business ~ for all intents and purposes.

If his real property is as highly leveraged as I suspect, my long time believe that he will find himself in a Court Ordered Receivership may come to fruition. Aside from bank loans and unpaid legal bills, the secondary list of claimants he has screwed will no doubt be unprecedented in the annals of history. In fact, the smaller list is, who hasn't he screwed.

Not to trivialize the upcoming event but I am curious to see if Rudy Giuliani himself has the chutzpah to jump on the bandwagon of Trump's downfall with his own claim for what he feels is his due.

What's important about Trump civil litigation is that his followers also see him as a LOSER.

Otherwise, he'll keep conning them with his lies. The DA's must bankrupt him and Trump Org and sell off everything to which he holds title in a Receivership. Money is his power. I want to see him so broke that he has to borrow cab fare. There was a time when he could depend on some Saudi Royal to bail him out but with no collateral to call his own, because of Receivership, there won't be anything for them to buy controlling interest.

As for the time it's taking to bring charges, let's don't forget those 500+ subsidiary companies that Trump Org. created to funnel loses and phony tax deductions. All that has to be examined with a microscope. Not to mention the names and complicity of the people on those Boards of Directors ~ his own children specifically.
