The House on Tuesday cleared legislation to raise the debt limit into early December, ensuring that the nation doesn't default on its debts next week but setting up another fiscal cliff at the end of the year.

Well this part was pretty much a given.

Where I have a problem with all this, is this isn't about future spending. This is about both parties having already spent the money while creating programs, adding benefits here or there, requirements that must be funded since they've already made the laws and payment is expected to the third parties carrying out their wishes. About 7 trillion and something that the republicans did while they were the majority party, not to mention what has been done since Biden has been in office.

They passed the bills and now want to play politics when it comes to paying for what they've already spent. Either side playing chicken is insane. Do away with this crap about having either party having a say in stopping payment for what they've already spent. The arguments should be when they are considering these laws, not after they have agreed and passed the bills on to be signed and they've become law.

For the now, I hold the republican party directly responsible for refusing to pay up for their part in all this and wanting to play chicken on shutting down the government solely to make political points.

...and it will all happen again, come December, right before the Holiday Season.
McConnell has all but assured it.

And why exactly do we have a "debt ceiling?" What does it accomplish? It doesn't limit spending or tax cuts for the rich. Trump added 7 trillion to the debt but Republicans are incensed that Biden wants to invest a few trillion to make America a better country. At some point the Trump cultists have to finally ask themselves about their own real core beliefs. Do they actually have any? Or are they just part of a cult of personality, hardly different from Germans in 1941, Russians in the 1950s or N. Koreans today? It's all the same thing, adoration of Dear Leader no matter what Dear Leader says of does. Like he said, 'he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose any votes." That is a statement which would fit well into the world of Kim Jung Il or Adolph Hitler but not into the world of an American President.

The debt ceiling drama is always political theater, congress has never failed to raise it when they needed to and it should be done away with.

I'll agree it is just political tinsel, and should be done away with,
that it is just there for the party out of power to exert leverage.
But now the financial world thinks it important, stock markets may crash
because of it (if it's not raised), so I don't know if you can just
'whoosh' yoink it away...
