After failing to show for a deposition on Thursday, the Democratic-led House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol said it will move forward with criminal contempt proceedings against Trump ally and political strategist Steve Bannon.

"Mr. Bannon has declined to cooperate with the Select Committee and is instead hiding behind the former President's insufficient, blanket, and vague statements regarding privileges he has purported to invoke. We reject his position entirely," Thompson said in his statement.

The committee has a number of other subpoena deadlines approaching, including ones for the right-wing Stop the Steal group and nearly a dozen other organizers behind the rally that preceded the deadly attack on the Capitol.

And the committee issued another subpoena Wednesday for Jeffrey Clark, an ex-Justice Department official who had promised to pursue Trump's false election fraud claims." excerpts

He SO lucky that Donald Trump has his back!

I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Send him back to prison!

We've heard the one about a bank becoming a casino but Trump and company wants to turn the constitution into one.

If Bannon loses the bet, he goes to prison where he'll be unable to testify (Criminal Contempt). Once he sits down to bologna and cheese in a cell, Congress will
be unable to connect the dots between what Bannon thought he could do, and what he could say about Trump.

If Congress wins and he agrees to testify, he might try something dumb like exert his 5th Amendment rights. At that point he'll be informed that this is not a
civil trial and that he must honestly answer.

This is the part where Republicans say:

He's being thrown in jail just for expressing a difference of opinion!

Banana republics require you to be present at your show trial in kangaroo court.

Steve Bannon is a kangaroo? And here I thought he was just a nasty GQP grease monkey with bad grooming and poor personal hygiene.

Thank you for your input comrade.

But if we wanted your opinion we could just scrape it off of Trumpy's zipper.

Does Executive Privilege apply to someone who has conversations with the President but is not a part of that President's administration?

Was Mr Bannon a part of the Trump administration at the time the pertinent conversations took place?

Criminal Contempt would be committing a new crime. It would not have been be covered by a previous Pardon for past conduct.

I would believe, that Trump's pardon would prevent him from taking the '5th' on questions regarding activity for which he has been pardoned, as there would be no possible self incrimination.

Is that understanding valid?

Contempt is normal for this illegitimate government and the deep state that installed it.

@#13 ... Contempt is normal for this illegitimate government ...

What is illegitimate about it?

...the deep state that installed it.

Yet somehow, this omnipotent Deep State wasn't powerful enough to get rid of McConnell and other GQP tools.
