Be aware if you've got bats in your home. That's the message from the Illinois Department of Health as it announced that an 80-year-old man died of rabies after waking up to find a bat on his neck. It is the first human case of rabies in the state since 1954. The man refused rabies treatment at the time of the incident in mid-August, health officials said in a press release. A month later, he started experiencing rabies symptoms such as neck pain, headache, difficulty controlling his arms, finger numbness and difficulty speaking. Rabies infections in humans are extremely rare in the United States, since the disease is preventable and treatable. Typically one to three cases are reported each year, and there were no cases reported in 2019, according to the most recent data available from the CDC.

"The man refused rabies treatment at the time of the incident"

Rabies is a hoax.

How do you know his reasons for declining treatment? It's really ghoulish to mock him when you don't know all the details.

Rabies shots in humans cost thousands of dollars. Also, they used to be very painful and were administered in the stomach. Many doctors in the U.S. do not have up to date knowledge about it.

There is no reason to refuse treatment.
Rabies is fatal. Period.
You aren't going to survive it without treatment.

"It's really ghoulish to mock him when you don't know all the details."

What's this even mean?
Is it any less ghoulish than mocking him when we know every detail?
I really don't get your angle here, other than being a scold.

Clucking is your strong suit.

Your chance of dying of rabies is almost zero, so why get treatment.

The article doesn't say whether the bat on his neck was captured and tested positive for rabies, nor whether anyone was certain that it bit him at the time.

This thread is obviously trying to draw parallels with those who decline the COVID-19 vaccine, but all it's doing is demonstrating how ghoulish those who mock them are.

There is a parallel.

Vaccine and mask refusals are ghoulish. Such people are ghouls. Happy Halloween.

According to another account, the man refused treatment after the bat tested positive for rabies (www.cnn.com).

The Republican refusal to vaccinate and mask up is one of the biggest moral failures this country has ever seen. No one cared if the immuno-compromised never got a vax. The rest of you are paranoid, selfish, twisted little beings.

The mortality rate for rabies is tangent to 1. And of all the diseases, it's the most unpleasant death.

If you get rabies, your first task should be to seek out a Special Operations medic and see if he won't have mercy on you and give you a handful of fentanyl lollipops.

COVID on the other hand? 98.5% of people would simply cough it off.

You've said this before and its ridiculously untrue.

Rabies is only fatal if you don't seek treatment, as this moron didn't.

If we had a rabies outbreak because people suddenly started biting each other would you argue it's freedumz for people to bite each other? Would you argue it's freedumz for people to refuse treatment/vaccination after being bitten by someone while also biting other people?

COVID is a respiratory disease that people think is within their freedumz to spread at will.

BTW 1.5% of the population is a massive number. Do you not understand basic math or do you just not care so long as it's outside of your immediate experience?
