Washington State University fired its football coach, Nick Rolovich, and four of his assistants on Monday for failing to comply with the state's Covid-19 vaccination mandate, according to a person familiar with the decision who was not authorized to speak publicly.

>Rolovich, who is in the second year of a five-year, $15.6 million contract, had become the public face of the showdown with Inslee, who repeatedly said there would be no exceptions, even for football coaches.

Highest paid employee is a football coach. I will welcome my new Chinese overlords, they know how to build a country. The US is an idiocracy.

He'll get hired in an anti vax state for even more money.

Or just run for congress and win because he's proven the be a stupid sociopath - the most desirable qualities for republicans.

>Highest paid employee is a football coach.

I don't think this is uncommon with the salaries the coaches can pull down. What other state employee would be making $3 million a year?
I remember in the financial crash of 2009 - mortgage crisis going on, people getting laid off - some cheeky reporter asked a big program basketball coach how he felt about being the state's highest paid employee. Coach shut that down pretty hard.

I wonder where this situation will lead, and if more of these stand-offs will occur.
If his contract is voided, then by my napkin math he's leaving $10 million on the table over this vaccination mandate.
People don't usually shrug and move on.

Tuberville was a former football coach, so maybe you're on to something

Dorks like this guy talk a good game, but very few (other than Allison Williams, formerly of ESPN) will stand on principle and give up a situation to retain their principles, no matter how off-kilter those principles may be. Most want to argue the point, and hope that the other side will back down. When push comes to shove, as it is now for many of the unvaxxed, they will bend and do the expedient thing and get the shot.

Funny how the head of the Chicago police union is raising such a fuss over his members not being protected against the #1 killer of cops in the US. I'll bet taht every street cop in Chicago is wearing body armor RIGHT NOW but they will not take precautions to protect themselves and their families against that which can do them the most harm. They don't realize they are bringing a cop-killer home to meet their families...

The sooner we weed out these sociopaths and relegate them, the better.

He's ok with kids getting brain damage as a job. Why would he care about a virus?

He was, like it or not, a role model for many thousands of other idiots so firing him is the right thing. Take away their positions of wealth and power and we'll see, long term, how strong their allegiance to ignorance really is. Some may go to their graves, Herman Caine style, but hopefully for their own sake I hope they really aren't that stupid.

Interested to know if Washington State had the option to be tested, if opting out of the vaccination?

I thought the vaccine mandate, in general, was get vaccinated or comply with weekly testing in order to return to work.
