Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

In recent days, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W. Va.) has told associates that he is considering leaving the Democratic Party if President Joe Biden and Democrats on Capitol Hill do not agree to his demand to cut the size of the social infrastructure bill from $3.5 trillion to $1.75 trillion, according to people who have heard Manchin discuss this. Manchin has said that if this were to happen, he would declare himself an "American Independent." And he has devised a detailed exit strategy for his departure.

I am surprised it took this long.

He does say he wants to see more bi-partisanship in Congress, yet he only seems to criticize Democrats for the lack of bi-partisanship. Why hasn't he been critical of the Republicans who treat bi-partisanship as something that Must Be Avoided.

Maybe Manchin should switch Parties. Because what he is doing now, as a Democrat, is undermining the entire Democratic agenda.

What kind of ego do you have to have to think that you know SO much more about everthing than all you other collogues combined that you should just ignore their opinions completely?

Trump-size ego?

#5 Realize that if Manchin switched parties, McConnell would be leader of the Senate and the dem agenda would be destroyed. There is no dem agenda without Manchin or any other current dem senator for that matter.

#8 | Posted by bored at 2021-10-20 03:36 PM | Reply

We need him to keep a majority.

Lose him and we might as well have lost the senate election in Georgia.

#9 | Posted by Tor at 2021-10-20 04:21 PM | Reply

We need him to keep a majority.

The guy is openly admitting he's a Republican.

Democrats never had the majority.

It's a 50/50 split, with two of the Democratic Senators, Manchin and Sinema, only pretending to be Democrats.

Face it. The American experience was great while it lasted. It's going to turn into a fascist nation in the next 3 years.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

They should give Manchin what he wants for now, ... pass a $1.7 trillion dollar infrastructure deal and get things moving.
Better than the option of losing the senate and watching Moscow Mitch kill everything he could.

Manchin didn't say he was going to switch to Republican. He (reportedly) said he would change to what he called "American Independent." How does that give McConnell a majority?

#12 | Posted by Twinpac at 2021-10-20 04:42 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

"How does that give McConnell a majority?"

Well, for one, a tie-breaking vote is worthless without a tie.

Manchin May really be doing exactly what he has to do in order to remain a senator.

The crazy lady from Arizona is just that.... and possibly on Putin's payroll.

His constituency is populated by a lot of people who think Q wasn't crazy enough.

It's just hard to believe he's better than some other Dem there, but with bawls.

Fkkking over the people who voted for him?

Fkkking over America?

Good for him.

You think it's bad now?

Do you remember what it was like when Republicans had the majority?

Do you remember what it was like when Republicans had the majority?

Unless Democrats do something to save voting rights literally right now.

The future will be entrenched with Republican majorities in Congress.

All McConnell has to do is stall until the 2022 elections are over.

#20 | Posted by ClownShack at 2021-10-20 06:17 PM | Reply

Oh so it is better with democrat majorities.

#21 | Posted by Tor at 2021-10-20 08:41 PM | Reply

The man hasn't been a Democrat for years.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If the Dems are bound to lose their slight majority in the Senate, on the day after the elections take place (assuming they lose the majority) both Manchin and Sinema should be unceremoneously tossed out of the party. Better to expel the blight now, then allow it to continue to fester and grow. And it would send a none too subtle message that THIS is what happens to corporate sellouts within the Democratic Party. Of course they're promoted in the GOP, but that's the morally bankrupt GOP for you...

#22 Hardcore righties used to say the same thing about John McCain. At the end of the day having a Sinema sitting on that Senate chair is better for the Democratic Party than a Ted Cruz 2.0.

The left is frustrated because of a sense of entitlement. Several years ago their biggest battles were won by SCOTUS. Now that they've lost that the only option is congress - and the left's agenda is grossly unpopular, which is why lefties despise the likes of Sinema and Manchin.

Create a better and more convincing agenda. Win elections and develop a political mandate. Then go through the messy process of legislating.

Start with what is in bold. I won't hold my breath.

#23 | Posted by BellRinger at 2021-10-20 08:52 PM | Reply

The dem agenda is already very popular. The dems won POTUS, the congress and sort of the senate. Two dem senators are kowtowing to the wealthy.
The gop agenda isn't written but translates into making the already rich, richer, no matter which country they are in, with a side of xtian white supremacy, bribes very welcome.

You aren't gonna get a coal business owner to give up his cash cow. He is not there to help his hole in the ground state.

#25 | Posted by Brennnn at 2021-10-20 11:43 PM | Reply

Wrong again Bellringer...(not surprising). The Left is frustrated, because
two Corporate Sellout -------- are deliberately sabotaging
the agenda of the duly elected President. And in that, those two ------- are no
different than their Republican brothers across the aisle.

It's the Voting Rights Bill he's blocking now. He sided with the Republicans who don't even want the bill to be discussed, let alone passed.

Trump doesn't want it passed either. He working on getting all voting rights nullified by state legislators which, incidentally, is the sure-fired road to an irreversible dictatorship.

Yes, irreversible!

I think it's time for President Biden to take the leap get rid of the filibuster. It's a risky move but there's there a lot more at stake than a Senate rule that Republicans have turned into an obstruction tool.

#27 | Posted by Twinpac at 2021-10-21 07:12 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

I gotta' admit. Trump has the Senate Republicans by the ba11s. There a saying that dates all the way back to ancient Rome. Translated it says "Once you have them by the ba11s, the minds and hearts are sure to follow."

Well he would be a bit player in the GQP ranks. By staying he is the second most powerful man in the United States.

How long do you think he would last in the GQP pulling this ---? He wouldn't make it a month before Mitch would have him removed from every single committee he applied to.

#29 | Posted by Nixon at 2021-10-21 07:50 AM | Reply

Trump has the Senate Republicans by the ba11s.

Trump has the entire GQP by the balls.

The right wing domestic terrorists have Trump by his shriveled sack.

He unleashed the monster and now he lives in fear of it.

Biden is living in 'fantasy land' if he thinks any amongst the GOP have anything
but animosity and loathing for him. NUKE the filibuster and be done with it!

Which party are you talking to? The one who decided to end democracy because they can't win popular elections any more?

The one who decided that if voters won't vote for their cult, then voting needs to be overturned?

"Create a better and more convincing agenda. Win elections and develop a political mandate. Then go through the messy process of legislating."

Oh give me a break and while you are at it GFY.

Enough with all the lies. It's extremely offensive.

Democrats do have a bold agenda designed to help Americans recover in a time of crisis. They won the election with a bold agenda to help middle class America. But Trump and his contemptible deplorables like you can't handle the truth. And a year later the deplorables are still promoting the big lie and have nothing to offer but more lies and obstruction.

And so Republicans act like vandals and do everything they can to obstruct and block everything Democrats try to do in order to prove government does not work. And when one political party is so dishonest it doesn't.

And you sit there wringing your hands and criticizing Democrats for "doing nothing" like nothing is or being done or can be done. Plenty could be done and Democrats are obviously trying but Republicans are more concerned with protecting Trumpy's widdle feelings than doing what needs to be done to defeat this virus and help Americans recover and move forward.

So like I said. Nothing else really to say but GFY you farging insurrectionist.
