President Joe Biden said Thursday the US was committed to coming to Taiwan's defense if it comes under attack from China -- a stance that seems in opposition to America's stated policy of "strategic ambiguity." Asked twice during CNN's town hall whether the US would protect Taiwan if China attacked, Biden said it would. "Yes, we have a commitment to do that," he said.

The President who happens to be in office when China attacks Taiwan will be facing some tough decisions.

The only realistic way to affect China's actions against Taiwan would be through the pocetbook. Higher aggression should mean loss of trade. It is our only real weapon against a nation like China that doesn't need to care about the loss of millions of lives but they do care about our dollars.

Alliances are a big problem. Washington said to avoid foreign entanglements. More war for people not our own is unacceptable.

China has nukes, are we prepared to fight a nuclear power on account of an ancient alliance of convienience? Would Taiwan fight them for us?

Difficult but clear choices await.

As with oil and the Mideast, a few very wealthy families around the world have invested a lot of money in Taiwan and we need to defend that wealth with the blood of America's poor-----------. Deplorable lives don't matter.

If China was smart they would attack now...our military is the best in the world, but way to overdepending on other countries for our resources.
Our supply lines would be gone in an instant.
How far are we willing to go?

Fat Donnie Fail would've just bent over and took it.

Tough words, I bet he does nothing. If there's a shooting war, The Big Guy won't get his ten percent.

There's nothing we can do, short of nuking them, which would destroy both of us. The surface navy is just a collection of targets, woefully unprepared for a war.

DF-21D on line one, wants to know if the US carrier groups want to come and out to play.

Give Taiwan nukes. That makes an amphibious assault very expensive.

Why don't we give everyone nukes? An armed society is a polite society. We let all Americans "bear arms",why not extend that wise policy to nukes abroad? It's been working here with guns so why not expand it to nukes too?

I think it would be a fine way to guarantee eternal peace.

Well, we need more jobs here in the US anyway. Time to start production on computer chips here, they're about to be in short(er) supply

We will do nothing. What can we do? We don't want a nuclear war and China knows it. Maybe give Taiwan nukes like posted earlier. Tell them we hope it works out for you.

Unfortunately, Biden's "Weekend at Bernies" puppeteers played the wrong sound track on Taiwan, which forced them to correct it later. But, in terms of embarassing moments in the press conference, his audible "what am I doing here" was far worse....not to mention him doing his best Beavis and -------- impression of a clenched fisted Beavis.

His approval is at -9.8 now (www.realclearpolitics.com) and the Dems know they can't make Kamala seem human even with the use of paid child actors so this is only going to get worse.

You people thinking we couldnt beat China in a war are laughable.

China is no where near ready to go to a REAL war with the U.S.

What we lack is only the political will to punch China in the nose.

Get us a commander in chief willing to do that, you will see China back down in a minute.

You are not dealing with rational people on this website. You see some on here saying we need to confront them economically - yet, these were the same exact people crying over Trump's tariffs despite them being highly effective in cooling the Chinese economy and starting the mass migration of manufacturing out of China. Vietnam, India, etc are booming as the companies relocate. Little of that will come back to the US because of regulations here, but new generation manufacturing will stay put in the US now as this was a powerful lesson.

If you want to protect Taiwan, all they need is anti-ship missiles and air defenses. The Chinese cannot attack from the sea and cannot send enough paratroopers to invade the island. There is no way they ever take Taiwan intact.
