Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Swedish health officials have now decided that a moratorium on giving the Moderna vaccine to anyone under 31 will be extended indefinitely, the U.K. Daily Mail reported. The pause on the Moderna shots had been scheduled to end on Dec. 1. Finland, Iceland and Denmark have taken similar steps. Norway is encouraging men under 30 not to get the Moderna shot, but is not mandating it. For months, the Moderna vaccine has been under scrutiny because of data that shows young men who receive it are at increased risk for myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle, and pericarditis, an inflammation of the sac around the heart.

There is good news for some long time posters here though, the risk from Moderna is limited to myocarditis and pericarditis - no mention of diarrhea as a side effect so Squirts Danfroth, GED can sleep easy.

" What a pathetic moron."

For some reason, rather than let it go, Ima Schitttturd is bound and determined to keep reminding folks he got caught in a massive lie about the side effects of ivermectin.

Mild side effects include nausea and diarrhea, worse ones include seizures, severe allergic reactions, and loss of consciousness.

Ima Schittturd claimed there were NO known side effects. A quick link proved him a bald-faced liar.

Why a poster would want to keep reminding you to treat him as an inveterate liar is beyond me.

Yes, on that we can fully agree. His hyper-fear of the squirts leads to dumb decisions.

I received the Moderna shot. I don't think I have a problem.

But if you're under 31 you probably don't need a shot all that much anyways.

Sweden is also doing a much better job than Germany currently and will like have Germany surpass it in death/M pops in the next few months.

This despite Sweden not implementing any economy crushing lockdowns. So, vaccines or no vaccines, they were already reaching herd immunity.

The lesson we can take away is that in a relatively healthy society, COVID death/1M pop if no social distancing or lockdowns are instituted will be around 1,300. Any amount over that and the difference are due to obesity and other underlying conditions. Same is seen in Netherlands.

I guess things can always change, but the German policy is currently to focus on hospitalization rates rather than new cases. So even if restrictions are imposed, they would be on non-vaxxed people.

The other big difference between much of Europe and the US is that you can get documentation showing you recovered from COVID, which is treated as being the equivalent of a vaccination or a negative test result.

And all restrictions do is limit how quickly a population achieves herd immunity.

No.
Herd immunity is unobtainable without vaccines.
Restrictions do something else, something not related to herd immunity.

I was waiting for Snoofy to tell me how everyone knows this to be true. Clearly, you are correct. Sadly, I think Snoofy is a classic example of the Left and their beliefs (or willingness to lie).

It may be a bit of a broad brush but not necessarily untrue.

A sizable list of credible Data Analysists have been making similar "conditional" statements like that for months. And for good reasons.

What is the current seasonal influenza and when was it introduced into the human population? The answer to that shows why your statement is really wrong.

Common misconceptions about herd immunity www.rasmussen.edu
Now that you have a solid foundation of what herd immunity is, let's talk about what herd immunity isn't. There's plenty of misinformation about this topic, so it's important to be aware and educated about these herd immunity myths.

Myth #1: It's easy to achieve natural herd immunity without vaccination.
Thanks to the different factors that impact the effectiveness of herd immunity, achieving natural herd immunity can be incredibly difficult if not impossible"as recurring epidemics of past centuries have taught us. Even if it can be achieved, it would likely come with a high cost.

According to Dr. Howard Forman of Yale University, achieving herd immunity to the COVID-19 virus in the United States without vaccinations would require 70 percent of the population to be infected with the disease. Reaching this rate of infection would likely leave an additional one million Americans dead.6

Myth #2: "Everyone else is getting vaccinated, so I don't have to."
"One of the most common misconceptions that I have heard is people believing that they do not need to obtain vaccination since everyone else is getting vaccinated," Evans says. "The issue is what if the neighbors, cousins, parents choose not to receive the vaccination?"

Herd immunity only works if enough of the population is on board, either through previous infection or vaccination. It's easy to assume that everyone else has antibodies, so it doesn't matter if you receive a vaccine or not. But when enough people make this type of assumption, the community as a whole will struggle to reach the herd immunity threshold, leaving space for infectious disease to continue spreading through the population. Eventually, the disease may run out of transmission pathways among the unvaccinated, but vaccination is typically the safest way to close those routes.

Myth #3: Disease outbreaks will never happen once we reach herd immunity.
Reaching herd immunity unfortunately doesn't mean we're all invincible against disease. The only vaccine-preventable disease to be declared eradicated from the world is smallpox. Although disease outbreaks become increasingly rare upon reaching herd immunity, transmission can still occur as long as a disease exists in the world.

International travel from regions that still have high infection levels, as well as pockets of certain communities or populations that remain unvaccinated, can provide opportunities for outbreaks to occur even with herd immunity.
