Barack Obama was a GREAT President. He inspired hundred of millions of Americans and the entire world. He stood for something and was able to persuasively articulate what that was. Health care for all. Racial equality. Sexual equality. Opportunity. Currently, the top leadership of the Democratic Party includes President Biden and Kamala Harris. Neither are inspiring. Neither are persuasive. Neither are larger than life. And THAT is a big part of the problem.
Currently the true giant in the Democratic Party is Senator Bernie Sanders. He IS larger than life. He has inspired tens of millions of followers. He does have a brave and radical vision for America's future The problem is, for most Americans he is considered so far to the left that they will never vote for him. He is BIG but being an 80ish year old Jewish socialist from far left Vermont he is, and will remain, unable to win a popular vote.
The Democratic Party is far more leftist and progressive than it was 25 years ago when Biden, the Clintons and all the 'moderate' Dems were ascendant. The Party leadership has yet to adjust itself to the new reality and reflect the growing direction in which the majority of liberals and progressives want us to go in. The Dems keep "playing it safe" with uninspiring mainstream, gutless leaders a la Biden and Harris. The Dems may or may not win the White House again in 2024, but that will be more a result of who the GOP chooses to nominate than the reality of having Biden be our flag bearer.
As gets pointed out all the time, one of the problems is that the Democratic Party is a coalition of factions. Southern Democrats such as those in Florida and Texas play a powerful role in deciding who gets nominated to be the POTUS candidate. Manchin in West Virgina and Sinema in Arizona are reflections of a non-progressive purple Democratic Party that seemingly is unable to play to what, nationally at least, is the Party's strengths.
If Sanders were POTUS, he would be loathed by tens of millions. But, he would be a GREAT leader. Instead we have Biden, who is also loathed by tens of millions but is a mediocre-at-best leader.
Balls in our court. Watch trip over our own feet.
