Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, November 18, 2021

The Biden administration on Wednesday is opening more than 80 million acres in the Gulf of Mexico to auction for oil and gas drilling, a record offshore lease sale that will lock in years of planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions

Since I am no longer invested in the area I don't have a problem with it
Its already being exploited and has been the septic tank of the south for over a century.

Its 80 million acres of dead zone, might as well put it to use so we can spare the unmolested places

Gas prices have already started to come down as a result of this -- two days before it was announced!

Now that's effective policy making.

Thank you, President Biden.

November 15,2021
WASHINGTON, D.C. " Consumers caught a little break as the national average price for a gallon of gas leveled off at $3.41, down a penny since last week. Since October 30, the national average has fallen on nine different days, after having risen steadily each of the previous 31 days.

#13 spin doctor extrodinaire

Biden did this because he knows a couple things.

1)We must supply more to get the prices to come down

2) his numbers are tanked

3) his hand was forced and he lied to everyone about the coming "Green" utopia he promised everyone. I've been telling you the same thing over and over - it would take over 30 years to do what he was selling you.

If you're trying to spin it the other directions here gas was already coming down (by a penny) then Brandon is a dirt bag liar and he sold all of you out to the oil companies.

You up to speed now?

How quickly does the supply increase?
You're an expert in this field. Surely you know the answer to this question. How long from announcing a lease sale, to oil production?

When supply strengthens and curbs demand. He could have done nothing.

Question for you. Why did Biden do it if it weren't for economic relief?

"This administration went to Scotland and told the world that America's climate leadership is back, and now it's about to hand over 80 million acres of public waters in the Gulf of Mexico to fossil fuel companies," House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Ral Grijalva, D-Ariz., said in a statement.

And then deal with this.

Swing and a miss. I get it, you don't want to deal with what you see in this article. I mean, after what you said about Trump destroying the environment, you want to distance yourself from all this, and rightly so.

Because if you were to be honest, you'd have to deal with this.

The Biden administration has approved 3,091 new drilling permits on public lands at a rate of 332 per month, a faster pace than the Trump administration's 300 permits per month.

The permit approvals for fossil fuel production are at odds with Biden's aggressive climate agenda, including a pledge to cut U.S. greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030 and reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

And this.

And this.

"The Biden administration is lighting the fuse on a massive carbon bomb in the Gulf of Mexico," said Kristen Monsell, oceans legal director at the Center for Biological Diversity. "It's hard to imagine a more dangerous, hypocritical action in the aftermath of the climate summit."

-I guess global warming is not being taken seriously.

By some it certainly is.

For others? It's nothing but a proper social position. They'd be outcast in their social circles if they admitted they didn't really believe in it.

People place a lot of superiority on themselves over this issue. It's an easy issue to grab and use to look down on others for.

#25 | Posted by eberly at 2021-11-17 06:03 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

Consider this....this is just an announcement. Haven't sold anything yet.

Perhaps there is a more complex strategy being pursued here. I don't know what it is...don't really have a clue....but it's possible.

And also consider this.....we aren't going to wean ourselves off oil by having the government(s) stand in the way of oil exploration.

Technology that works and people buy into is how we are going to do it. By the marketplace giving people a better choice.

Not by hoping for gas prices so high (and by perverting that by standing the way) that people have no choice but to abandon oil.

It will be about relatively free markets bringing a better solution.

This is going to hurt Biden more than legislative gridlock. He's completely IGNORING global warming. Higher gas prices are inevitable if we are remotely serious about reducing emissions, Duh! The Trump humpers will never vote Biden no matter what and now he's thrown the whole left, and anyone who really gets that global warming is not a fantasy, aside like chumps to be lied to and taken for granted. F**k him and the whole Corporate wing of the Dems.

This may put Trump back in, or it may help Biden because nobody really wants to do anything that hurts about the problem. It's all hand wringing and jawboning. If gas went up a few bucks a gallon maybe people would drive less? But then they would all vote Trump to get more drilling and refining to bring the cost back down.

Americans are addicted to cheap gas and the status quo. It's going to take ecological collapse and irreversible damage to the Earth's biosphere to get American's to accept Any Sacrifices at all and probably not even then unless the collapse affects them personally. Like food shortages or rolling blackouts nationwide.

We're screwed, we're too stupid to adapt.Too wedded to our convienience and familiar ways of living.

I am in favor of preventing climate change as well, but I am also in favor of Biden following the law? You guys seem to want him to become Trump when it is convenient for your political agenda.

He TRIED to put a hold on all leases. He was blocked by a judge. He is appealing. Yes, he COULD not abide by the decision and further weaken a bedrock tenet of our government (checks and balances), but then you lose all moral authority to complain when Trump did the same thing.

I completely support Biden in this. Definitely not my preferred outcome, but my values and ideology supercede my short term political wants.

If you want to discard your ideology and values whenever it becomes convenient become a Republican. They do it all the time, you will fit right in.

That's like putting a band-aid on a bullet hole.
Seawalls etc. are Short term not very effective uses of valuable resources. We need to cut EMISSIONS significantly NOW. This will not be painless or politically without cost. Expensive gas will cut emissions. Not drilling for more hydrocarbons to burn will reduce emissions. People are going to have to change in ways they don't want to. Big trucks, SUVs, constant air travel, need to be curtailed. This is not going to be easy or popular. Biden can't make the American people want to sacrifice but he can at least try to encourage the mind set.

"Don't be fuelish" that dates back to Carter years. Little stuff reminding people that this is important and a problem that is growing exponentially.

Approving 80,000,000 acres of offshore drilling ain't it.

And yes he could defy the judge and should. If Trump can do it for petty nonsense,Biden can do it for important policy reasons.

Biden doesn't seem to really get the urgency of what's happening. He's still stuck in 1979 believing all the pre Reagan BS about comity and bipartisanship. He also has disdain for the left like most corporate owned politicians.

Corporations are not going to save us. Bipartisanship is not going to save us.
Billionaires are not going to save us.

Our only real chance is if enough people get it in time and act individually to change.

Given our social climate and the media disinformation millions live with.

It's no longer about helping the country. The only thing your cult cares about is opposing democrats. As I said - If dems cured cancer, repubs would become pro cancer. And you know it.

We're so screwed.

Republicans want to die if they can't get their baby way. Trump is a huge baby. He should DIE. The world would be a better place.

Some of you Libs are shocked, I'm not. 2022 elections are coming up and the Dems are in Panic mode

Republicans are still in panic mode over the 2008 election.

Liberals could cure cancer and conservatives would just become pro cancer.

That literally happened with the cancer preventing HPV vaccine. I recall seeing opinions when the vaccine was first introduced where right-wing religious zealots claimed it was against god's will because developing cancer from hpv is "God's will"

"That literally happened with the cancer preventing HPV vaccine."

That's not how it happened in Texas. Rick Perry, Republican governor, had to fight Democrats to make the HPV vaccine mandatory for school aged girls. He lost the fight.

"Body Autonomy" is only popular to the side that's not in power at the moment.

By issuing an executive order Governor Perry avoided the usual approval process through the Texas state legislature. He said, "The HPV vaccine provides us with an incredible opportunity to effectively target and prevent cervical cancer." He said that it was no different from vaccinating children against polio. His supporters also point out that vaccinations against childhood diseases are often required by school districts in the United States.

Don't be a purity pony.

The purity ponies don't understand that in order to effect change it requires the candidates to win national elections.

Energy prices are going to be front and center of the mid terms and the 2024 election. Steps need to be taken to reduce prices in the short term while simultaneously pushing for policies that will promote green energy in the long term.

Losing elections to GOP candidates that will scrap all green energy policies is not the path to follow.

The purity ponies don't understand that uber progressive candidates will never win national elections.

It's gonna take baby steps.

That's what everyone thought about the uber conservative wing that now controls the republican party.

They were just the "tea party caucus" then the "freedom caucus" now the TRUMP CULT.

Turns out "extremists" get a lot more support from the country than sellout status quo politicians do.

#85 | POSTED BY SNOOFY

Not to mention how they are still panicking over losing in the 2020 elections.

They panicked so badly they incited an insurrection at our US Capital to try and overthrow or circumvent our democratic processes.

Republicans may be very poor losers. But they are still losers nonetheless.

The one, and only one reason is attempting to do damage control ahead of 2022 elections; IMO too little, too late.

From the linked article:

"But in June, a federal judge in Louisiana issued a preliminary injunction to block the administration's suspension and ordered that plans continue for lease sales that were delayed for the Gulf and Alaska waters.

The U.S. Department of Justice is asking an appeals court to overturn the judge's order. "
