Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, November 17, 2021

In the 12-month period that ended in April, more than 100,000 Americans died of overdoses, up almost 30 percent from the 78,000 deaths in the prior year, according to provisional figures from the National Center for Health Statistics. The figure marks the first time the number of overdose deaths in the United States has exceeded 100,000 a year, more than the toll of car crashes and guns combined.

The rise in deaths -- the vast majority caused by synthetic opioids -- was fueled by widespread use of fentanyl, a fast-acting drug that is 100 times as powerful as morphine. Increasingly fentanyl is added surreptitiously to other illegally manufactured drugs to enhance their potency.

How many died OD'ing on horse paste.

I should probably feel bad about this but I don't. Sort of like when I didn't shed a tear when Trumpers offed themselves by refusing the vaccine.

I'll chalk it up as another one of my many moral failings.

Not nearly that many. So few as to make this comment insulting.

Depression, domestic violence, overdosing...all are unfortunately expected results for far too many from the past two years.

Don't mock them with kind of ----.

Public health is a tough balance. Decreased risk of one sort for some was a guaranteed increased risk of another sort for others.

Would you want to be in that chair when s&^% hit the fan?

Many people turn to heroin when doctors refuse or are regulated to the point they fear giving prescriptions for pain pills.
My doctor told me I would have to quit marijuana and test clean for 6 months before he would help me. I asked him what the right amount of heroin a amateur should start with... he changed his policy and I get what I need to manage pain without walking around downtown Portland looking for smack.

But how many lived?

#8 | Posted by jakester at 2021-11-17 11:47 PM | Reply

Alot of people survive daily on heroin....millions.
Many do die and I am not saying heroin should be an option... but suffering everyday without any relief doesn't work either.

More avoidable COVID deaths?

"Many do die and I am not saying heroin should be an option"

Why shouldn't it be?

Anybody young should avoid heroin at all costs, addiction can ruin a life... but if your on the wrong side of 50 and the doctors ignore your pain... then by all means, deal with it however you can.
I would rather live a short pain-free life than live 20 more years of suffering.

Alcohol used to be the drug of choice for pain. Still legal, too.

Legalize, educate and provide compassionate care to those who need it.

Drug cartels are using capitalism against us.

Most of the dope comes in on shipping containers... and some from south of the border a tried and true diversionary tactic. Nowadays much of the south of the border junk originates in Asia competing with the local markets. Everyone has to compete with China these days.

Afghanistan provides most of the opium. China provides Fentanyl. The Sacklers get a tax break after a legal slap on the hand.

We are fighting with Asia and Asia is winning... right under (up) our noses. But let's blame it on the Mexicans coming over for a better life picking fruit and cleaning houses for next to nothing.

Cartel wars? They are the epitome of crony capitalism and a demonstration of its side benefits.

yay god... jezus and the usa

Where's EffetePoser to say payback is a bitch and we in the West deserve it for the Opium Wars the British fought in China?

Capitalism and the Government built this.

Capitalism via:
- In the form of the drug cartels.
- Driving the war on drugs.
- Pushing legal highly addictive opioids for all.
- That saw an opportunity and started making more powerful opioids for the street. (Primarily Chinese)
- An opportunity to fund a never ending war in Afghanistan (Taliban).
- Endorsement of the war on drugs via political donations.

Government
- Prohibition on drugs.
- Starting the war on drugs.
- Focus on enforcement of laws vs helping people.
- Dismantling of the mental health system in the US
- Racist drug enforcement laws.
- Reinforcement of Generational poverty.

I really could go on all day.

True dat... but Trumpanzee screwed things up so bad it is going to take 4 years of Biden and 8 years of another democrat to fix it up... same as it was with Bushturd2. You pigs keep screwing things up and whining about how long it takes to fix.

China was laughing at Trumpanzee going on about his wall and how it was going to stop the drugs from coming in.

You cl0wns are that stupid.

Seriously... like shooting pigs in a barrel.

BTW...did you notice that Trumpanzee only had one term? There is a reason for that reality.
