She's first to be given power temporarily.

#2 - that is also correct, as is the headline.

VP Harris became President under Amendment 25, which was enacted in 1967.

However, Pres Woodrow Wilson's wife, Edith, assumed many (most?) of the Presidential tasks when Pres Wilson was paralyzed by a stroke in 1919. The 25th Amendment wasn't around at the time, so there was no real official transfer of power. Or was there?

That Harris was acting President was official, formal, by the books, and done properly.

That Presidents wives at time are more Presidential than they should be has been going on since Abigail Adams.

@#5 ...That Harris was acting President was official, formal, by the books, and done properly. >>>

What was the "by the books" way before the 25th was enacted? (asking for a friend...)

... That Presidents wives at time are more Presidential than they should be has been going on since Abigail Adams. ...

While I agree, lumping FL Wilson into the "That Presidents wives at time are more Presidential than they should be" category is a bit of a stretch.

Pres Wilson was all but paralyzed by the stroke. FL Wilson performed most of his Presidential duties.

The Adams were joined at the hip and Abigail may have been the better half.

Dolly Madison even had her own seat in congress.

Wilson's wife I wouldn't bring up because of some serious errors she may have made.

The headline may not be correct.

Section 3 of the 25th specifically says she would be Acting President, not President.

25th Amendment
www.law.cornell.edu

Amendment XXV

Section 1.

In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.

Section 2.

Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

Section 3.

Whenever the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President.

Section 4.

Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.

Irrelevant noise.

... Dolly Madison even had her own seat in congress.

Ditto.

... Wilson's wife I wouldn't bring up because of some serious errors she may have made.

How well she did is also irrelevant. She all but solely ran the Country because Pres Wilson was not capable of doing so.

I'd actually tend to agree. What's the big deal about it?

It shows how well the Country can work when the White House follows the rule of the Constitution instead of trying to subvert it.

The Constitution worked as it should.

Cramps - Goo Goo Muck
www.youtube.com

Lyrics...

...
When the sun goes down, and the moon comes up
I turn into a teenage goo goo muck
Yeah, I cruise through the city and I roam the street
Looking for something that is nice to eat
You better duck
When I show up...
The goo goo muck.
...

They don't write lyrics like that anymore...

Sadly (or not) this song may be a contributor of what pushed memories of the Pulsaki Skyway out of my remembrance.

The area college station ( wxci.org ) in the 80's was quite amazing in the music that was played. They were a leader in where music was going. WLIR was a similar station. But I digress...

The aforementioned wives had no power. They may have been influential, but they could not override the Constitutional powers granted only to the president.

Hillary Clinton was de facto co-president from '93-'01, yet she was Constitutionally powerless like previous presidential wives.

I'll put a little pin on this story by saying how nice it is to have a President who isn't "acting" all the time.

"You sound almost giddy."

I suspect Willowby is comparing President Biden to his own early onset. It's a common occurrence in the shallow end of the gene pool according to a study done by the research department at Bucktooth U.

I wouldn't do a victory lap over it.

"Vice President Kamala Harris is facing her own political conundrum with polls suggesting she may be less popular than her unpopular boss. A dynamic leader who made history by becoming the first Black woman and first person of South Asian descent to step into her office, Harris has been given few opportunities by the Biden White House to shine.

She delivered her first solo speech to promote the new infrastructure law on Friday in Ohio's capital city, addressing a mostly empty union hall largely absent of political dignitaries at roughly the same time Biden was issuing the White House's annual turkey pardon in Washington."

oooooooo stop the world and let me off! Poll "suggests" she is less "popular" than Biden.

It's not high school... she's still has a VP-P-VP scorecard. Nothing gonna change that.

An actual example of political unpopularity looks like people around the world gleefully dancing in the streets and sounds like Notre Dame ringing its bells as part of the international celebration when the orange Trumpanzee lost.

In VP land it looked like Biden who was sent out there to do the dirty work choosing to behave professionally enough to execute his duty. The act did not enhance his status on one side and sank it on the other.
