Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, November 26, 2021

The incident in Lubbock, Texas on November 5 centered around a custody dispute over the children of Chad Read and his ex-wife Christina Read. However, Carruth has not been charged by police over the incident with his lawyers arguing that the killing was 'justifiable homicide' and done in self defence.

#1 - Nothing calms things down like bringing a gun out, does it? /s

Read and his ex-wife are having a discussion, she's an ass and not respecting the Court's order on custody. Still they are both talking it out. Then "Kyle" (what is it with males named "Kyle"?) goes and gets his gun, everyone goes into a rage, and Read's right for visitation gets permanently revoked.

All with the sound of Country music and chicken's clucking in the background.

Kyle: hey, you can call me dad now, son.

You know what bothers me most is how matter of fact it was. No shrieks, howls or crying. Didn't even move toward him to check him out. The guy never even raised his arms during the whole confrontation.

#5 | Posted by bruceaz at 2021-11-26 11:43 AM | Reply

Never act a angry/threatening fool on someones else's property.

He didn't have to shoot him, but I understand.

First off the guy was having a discussion with his ex. Though heated he kept a respectable distance from her the whole time.

I didn't see any real violence until the gun was brought into the fray.

Smarter people would have gone into the house, secured the children, locked the doors and called the police to remove a trespasser.

But then, it's Texas so what can you say?

"Castle" laws.

In the old days when you killed someone in your front yard you had to drag the guy into the house before you called the cops.

Bunch of trash.

Dude is lying there shot and the women in the car is like "I got it on video, kyle" cool as a cucumber as if that guy isn't bleeding out on the floor.

Pure trash.

#11 she explains in the article that she didn't think it was a real weapon because she thought a gun would be much louder. She thought it may have been a paintball gun or some sort of stun gun.

But yeah I agree.

As far as bleeding out. That guy was dead before he hit the ground.

'When a trespassing Chad Read advanced on Mr Carruth, who was standing within feet of the front door of his home and office, employees there, Mr Read said I'll take your gun and effing kill you with it and then tried to. It was then and only then did that gun get pointed at Mr Read at the fatal moment,' Guinn said.

@19 -That's not accurate at all. You can watch the video. Unfortunately there's no sound on the version in the linked article. If there was what happened is even clearer.

For me, it was none if his business. He ain't no hero. Let your woman handle her own affairs.

He wanted to see his son and he had that right.

And I want to see that video. That's class A evidence and the discussion means nothing without it. But you don't walk onto my property of kids and refuse to leave and then beg me to kill you. Where are the cops? He even fired a warning shot into the ground. How stupid was corpse boy? Yeah.

#31 | Posted by HeliumRat at 2021-11-26 06:39 PM | Reply

Well obviously you didn't see the video, no kid there. He fired a warning shot into the ground between their feet. The threat, the guy was huge. That's it. He was dealing with the ex on an important topic, she wasn't physically threatened and it was none of his business. Period.

My sympathy goes to the kid.

But your response meant alot, was worried you were a dick

#10 indeed. pretty sure "castle" pertains to INSIDE not outside. outside would be SYG (if your state has one), after that Self Defense.
seems to me this guy loses on all of them.

#34 | Posted by ichiro at 2021-11-26 07:30 PM | Reply

he, shooter, threatened the guy first, iirc. so the guy got in his face as if to say, "go ahead, strike first."
when he GOES inside to get a gun, that's when he left the conflict ... but he came back with a lethal weapon. in those steps to get that weapon he had time to disengage. i don't think he has a right to brandish or fire that weapon like that.

#35 | Posted by ichiro at 2021-11-26 07:37 PM | Reply

foi: Texas law states that property owners are able to use force to terminate trespassing or theft if they deem it is necessary; however, force and deadly force are two different actions. Shooting the trespasser is considered deadly force since the bullet can easily end the person's life. If the person is not an immediate threat to you or your family, deadly force is not permissible. This is easier to understand with concrete examples.

If the trespasser is wandering around your yard, in a non-threatening manner, using deadly force can lead to felony charges. However, if the individual becomes a threat by coming toward you with a weapon in hand or breaking into your home and using the weapon to take things, their trespassing has now escalated to attempted murder or aggravated robbery. Because your life may be on the line, Texas' stand your ground laws allow you to shoot the individual, in an act of self-defense, without needing to retreat from the other party in any way. Stand your ground laws allow property owners to defend their property through deadly force without retreating if the other party is an imminent threat.

Not in Texas.

If there were a violation in the visitation agreement, all he had to do was go get in his car and call the sheriff.

He'd be alive today if he wasnt such a dick.

" all he had to do was go get in his car and call the sheriff."

He probably had done this in the past, don't you imagine people try to do the right thing first?

"He'd be alive today if he wasnt such a dick.'

He'd be alive today if people weren't such dicks about #DefundThePolice. A community officer could have handled this without the tension of an officer.

"Our weapons, hallowed by thy name."
"Guns solve everything."

Ridiculous, what idiots, the system is broken which is why in this instance, San Francisco, Chicago, Waukesha, Kenosha, Oakland, NYC, Portland, Columbia SC are all taking the "law" into their own hands, to get needs met.

The system is broken because the Police suck! #DefundThePolice and fund community service people, things will get better.

How is this not obvious?

"He probably had done this in the past, don't you imagine people try to do the right thing first?"

I imagine most people try to do the right thing first, yes. I thought about that as I watched the video but he appeared to be emotionally charged from the get go. Maybe there was something I missed prior to the video being taken.

I think the "system" is breaking down presently and it's worse in some places than others. For instance a moron drives an SUV into a crowd at a Christmas parade and all we're told immediately is that there's no reason to think it's terrorism. Given where it happened and what just took place there, something stinks and the local officials are trying to keep a lid on it.
