Is anyone surprised that it took only a couple of days for Republicans to spread obviously nonsensical conspiracy theories about the omicron coronavirus variant?

More from the op-ed...

... U.S. Representative Ronny Jackson, a Texas Republican and former White House physician, took to Twitter on Sunday to claim: "Here comes the MEV " the Midterm Election Variant! They NEED a reason to push unsolicited nationwide mail-in ballots. Democrats will do anything to CHEAT during an election " but we're not going to let them!"

I suppose I should point out how unlikely it is, to put it mildly, that Democrats would be capable of getting the entire world to pretend there's a new, potentially dangerous variant of the virus that causes Covid-19, which would then serve as a pretext for absentee voting, which somehow Democrats would supposedly be able to use to cheat, even though no such cheating was detected by a series of Republican states in 2020 " and even though those all-powerful, devious Democrats also, for this to make sense, wouldn't be able to find any other way of cheating. Oh, and that's not to mention that the timing is all wrong. And that surely more devastation from the pandemic would be, you know, actually really bad for the incumbent party. ...

Ignorance, the gift that keeps on giving.

Republicans attacking public education for the past 50 years has really been paying off.

The Republican base, by and large, never had an interest in education. They learned exactly what they needed, or thought they needed, and have been throwing an elaborate and extended hissy fit that this means that they are now less competitive, less happy, and less wealthy than many others.

The problem here is not that what Rep Jackson is saying totally bonkers.

The problem here is that the GOP likely will buy into his conspiracy theory, and bounce it around the GOP echo chamber, because (and mainly because) it paints the Democrats as the evil enemy.

Another excuse for the fascist freaks to deny our right to vote.

COVID is now primarily a disease of the unvaccinated who apparently have no issue joining the rising numbers of infected/dead COVID patients.

+216,000 newly diagnosed with COVID yesterday (that we know of)

Deaths: +1,876

Even if a prominent anti vaxxer were to fall ill and die in the classic COVID death spiral (alone in a hospital room with a tube down the throat) nearly all on the right would deny that the virus exists. Of course many of these folks would find themselves at the local CVS to pick up some Preparation H, Monster Energy or greeting cards and then slip by the vaccine desk when no one is watching ...

If the right weren't so fricking dangerous, I'd be too bored to hold my head up. This constant conspiracy nonsense is quite tiresome.

Is anyone surprised that Dems are treating it like it's the end times for all humans and COVID and the new variant are the beginning of the apocalypse even though every statistic in the world proves it's not even close, and many numbers here in the states prove that efforts like mask mandates are not necessary?

I mean, if you want to get into conspiracies, let's get into conspiracies. Oh, you were only wanting to talk about stupid Rep conspiracies, not stupid Dem conspiracies?

Let's see a link for dems acting like that.

Unless you just made it up because the only way for repubs to seem reasonable is if you make up lies to make dems seem as crazy as you.
