I'm not exactly sure what this award represents anymore. Mohamed Salah is the best player in the world. This is an objective fact.
Messi is the third best player for "team" of mercenaries playing in the fourth best league. He hasn't put in a full 90 minute shift in years.

I have watched Messi a long time and I don't think he deserved it this year. I haven't watched as much as I used and he is getting older but he is still a force. For the record - Messi played the full 90 in all the Champions League games this year as far as I am aware. I'm not a fan of PSG and I think you are correct about them stacking the team but mercenaries is a bit harsh - teams do it in every sport they can.

If Barcelona had more competent management they wouldn't have been in the financial hole they are and had to let him go. I don't know how they got themselves in such debt frankly. Well actually I think I do - complete business management incompetence. Just on glaringly obvious area - merchandising. How can you be consistently be sold out of your star player's jerseys? How do you let knock offs be sold everywhere? Merchandising 101. Getting a Messi Jersey for example was next to impossible - official jersey's should have been in stock everywhere all the time.

Salah is a great player. No doubt in my mind, but he didn't even get second in voting. Racism? Maybe. Lewandowski is another old timer who also outperformed Messi this year and he finished second in votes.

Messy just walks around the pitch and expects the other guys on the team to do his job so he can score goals and get all the glory. This award is pure commercialism BS. I can think of five plater better than this little steroid fed monster. That's right Barfa fed "el Pulga" which means 'The Flea' growth hormones his entire teenage years. Yet, Lance Armstrong got all his awards tossed out for the same cheating but not this guy. The fix is in.

Messi played the full 90 in all the Champions League games this year as far as I am aware

He was on the pitch for 90 minutes, standing around the center circle waiting on someone to make a tackle and pass him the ball.

he didn't even get second in voting

All the ------ will vote for Lewandowski whose style of play and team setup ensures he gets a lot of service and chances. All the Spaniards will vote for Messi out of habit, still clinging to the false belief La Liga is more than a two horse league of testimonial matches and friendlies. The English voters have half a dozen prospects to chose from and split their votes among De Bruyne, Kante, Ruben Dias, Van ---- and Salah who all deserve it more than Messi.

I know I'm just a homer and my opinion is skewed, but I honestly cant understand how anyone that watches football can't see how utterly dominant Salah is on both sides of the ball. Most goals and most assits across all leagues as a winger. Full effort from whistle to whistle Every. Week.
