Kristofer Harrison: A couple weeks ago Senator Ted Cruz was speaking at Texas A&M University when someone asked him his thoughts on the Texas secessionist movement. He replied that he wasn't "there, yet."

More from the op-ed...

...It is important to understand that the modern secession movement is not a product of Lone Star pride. It's an idea that has been force fed into the American conservative movement by Russia.

Secession is one of the Kremlin's "active measures" campaigns: Promote fringe wackos abroad and hope that, eventually, they break something. This may not sound like much of a plan, but it sometimes works. Putin has been openly building his portfolio of wackos for a while. And the wackos have begun breaking things.

The shiny ball that caught Cruz's attention was The Texas Nationalist Movement (TNM). TNM is Texas's most prominent secessionist organization. In 2015, TNM attended a St. Petersburg gathering of worldwide extremists organized by Rodina"that's "Motherland" in Russian"the fascist-adjacent offshoot of Putin's United Russia party.

That gathering was a safe space where the likes of German Neo-Nazis, the KKK, Greece's Golden Dawn, and Roberto Fiore (the Italian terrorist responsible for a 1980 bombing in Bologna that killed 85), could gather and praise Putin's defense of Western (read: "white") culture. Here, featured on Rodina's website, is Nate Smith, TNM's executive director, in attendance. Howdy! Russia's info warriors were very pleased with his comments at the event. This skulduggery got so bad and Robert Mueller indicted 13 Russians who were working with the Texas secessionist movement in 2016 to"please put down your coffee"spread misinformation about Ted Cruz during the presidential primary in order to help Donald Trump.

There's a nice symmetry there. Some day when when Hollywood comes calling the film can be titled, "From Victim to Dupe: The Ted Cruz Story."...

Fine.

Pull NASA and every federal military base out of TX.

Let them fund their own highways, roads, bridges and military. Every other state will benefit from the removal of this red taker state.

Texas Regulator Closes Draft Gas-Winterization Loophole
www.bloomberg.com

...Railroad Commission clarifies who'll need to weatherize, though there are still no requirements in place for this coming winter.

Texas's top oil and gas regulator voted Tuesday to more clearly define who'll be at the top of the list to keep receiving electricity during severe winter weather, closing an earlier draft loophole that critics said would've let any operator pay just $150 to opt-out of expensive upgrades....

Still, despite the changes adopted Tuesday, there's lingering fear heading into the winter season.

"We're glad the staff and commission listened to reason and reduced the number of companies allowed to opt out of doing their part to protect our grid. However, I worry this rule gives too many gas companies a free pass to avoid requirements," Luke Metzger, executive director for Environment Texas, said in an emailed statement....

Kast a ultra right wing candidate here in Chile's national election just fly to the US to meet with Rubio and other traitors. This man's grandpa was a Nazi that fled defeated Germany at the end of WW2 and brought a lot of wealth with him to Chile. Whose money that was only god knows. His grandson Kast is a abject fascist that wishes to not let women vote, have abortions and was good buddies with Pinochet. What were they talking about in this meeting(s)? Is he going to take marching orders from the likes of Rubio who is in cahoots with Putin and that treasonous ex POTUS? This is a world wide connection of all the white minded vermin.

At this point, leaving the U.S. may be the best thing Texas could do for our country.

"At this point, leaving the U.S. may be the best thing Texas could do for our country."

I agree but then we'd just have a lot more poor people trying to sneak back into the U.S.

I would imagine the whole South would leave.

So if I understand the basis of this article, all secession movements are Russian based? So why are Democrats in California wanting to leave?

Seems like his tactics are working on a lot of people on both tribes.

47% of West Coast Dems, 66% of Southern Republicans Want to Secede From U.S.

A 66 percent majority of Republicans in 13 Southern states including Texas and Florida are in favor of seceding from the union, according to a poll released Wednesday by Bright Line Watch. Half of all independents in the South agreed, while only 20 percent of Southern Democrats were on board.

Support for forming a breakaway country reached 47 percent among Democrats in California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii. One-third of West Coast independents, or 33 percent, were in favor of succession, along with 27 percent of West Coast Republicans.

Perhaps, but I suspect that they would NOT want to secede TO the SAME place.

Very interesting. California and Texazz are the (only) two major cash-cows won from the US Intervention in Mexico back in the mid 19th century. So now the good ol' "Manifest Destiny" annexation states are reassessing their part in the "Great" "American" experiment?

So now the fear is the red states might follow suit with Texazz being sugar daddy?

lol... far out. Can't wait.

Russia doesn't invent the stupid ideas, they just encourage them online.

Right wingers are the most gullible morons on the internet, so they fall for it the most.

The successionists won't be so happy when they find out that their new currency goes the way of the Peso vs U.S dollars.

#19 | Posted by Twinpac at 2021-12-02 03:32 PM | Reply

The Texas secessionists have far more in common with Russia than they do with the United States. During the Obama Presidency, over at Faux Spews they openly rooted for Putin to embarrass President Obama, and praised and fawned all over old rat face when comparing him to our first black POTUS. The MAGAts rooted for Dotard as he did Putin's bidding in trying to collapse NATO and feuding with our long-time allies in the EU. The Reich made excuses when Dotard embarrassed himself and betrayed this country with his performance in Helsinki, wiping Putin's batter off his chin after their private, unrecorded meeting. The Reich loves Russia so much, they should move there, because they are so far removed from what makes this country great, they are anti-American to their core. I would much rather be neighbors with an immigrant family than with ANY MAGAt, because I know the immigrants are loyal and love this country, while the MAGAts are traitors to our country and constitution, they can go straight to hell.

So much in common with Russia. Right. Couldn't even make it 4 days in a mild version of a Russian Winter.

"I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

See that part about "without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion"?
Any member of Congress who does not immediately bat down any talk of secession should be expelled. Entertaining the idea is a violation of their oath of office.

Haha, I know Libs love that they have another scare tactic to use when they can't win a fight. Adding Russia to any conversation automatically means you have lost, just like calling someone racist.

"Any member of Congress who does not immediately bat down any talk of secession should be expelled. Entertaining the idea is a violation of their oath of office."

Ok, let's start there but remove Congress. Let's just talk about Dems in general (Reps are as bad but you are attacking Reps due to partisan hate so that's what we are discussing). I typically don't like to do the research for you kids but in this case I'll lend a helping hand. Go to Google.com. Type in "did democrats talk about secession." Read, absorb, and apologize for your hypocrisy. I'll start you off...

That's just to start you off, there are a lot more. Obviously I don't expect this to change your mind as I have rarely encountered a Liberal who will rethink their hypocrisy when it is shoved in their face, but I have to keep trying in hopes it will happen some day.

What part of "Any member of Congress" did you fail to understand?
I mentioned nothing of parties. You are the one injecting "partisan hate" here. How about you "read, absorb and apologize" because my comment doesn't say whatever it is that you seem to think it says.
