Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor on Wednesday expressed fear that a bid to overturn decades-old abortion rights, if successful, would irreparably damage the court.

The "stench". Never again should any judge, justice or onlooker conclude anything other than that the Supreme Court is composed of politicians making politics-based rulings on political issues in favor the Party they feel beholden to. Stare Decisis is a joke if it does not apply to Roe v. Wade.

the Left always say "follow the Science". Well, we know so, so, so much more now about the Living Being inside the womb than what we did in 1972

We do? Be specific as to how that applies to RvW.

Chief Justice Frat Boy told the Senate during his confirmation hearing that Roe v Wade is "settled law".

But today he signaled that he was just funnin' when he said that.

Justice Sotomayor is correct in that this case before SCOTUS is politically based, based upon the new make-up of the Supreme Court.

GOP justice Amy Coney Barrett worried people see Supreme Court as partisan
boingboing.net

...Barrett spoke at length about her desire for others to see the Supreme Court as nonpartisan. Barrett said the media's reporting of opinions doesn't capture the deliberative process in reaching those decisions. And she insisted that "judicial philosophies are not the same as political parties."

"To say the court's reasoning is flawed is different from saying the court is acting in a partisan manner," said Barrett, whose confirmation to the seat left open by the death of the liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg cemented conservative control of the court. "I think we need to evaluate what the court is doing on its own terms."...

My question would be ... why did Justice Coney Barrett feel the need to utter such comments if there were not a significant reason to do so?

None of which pertains to the question before the court.

It's not like people didn't know the fetus was a human life before 1972.

Even though you don't seem to be able to learn that fact.

@#12 ... None of which pertains to the question before the court ...

That is how Roe vs Wade will be bypassed. (and I noted as much a few days ago...)

Frame the case as the fetus being a person, and not as one of a woman being dictated to regarding her body.

So, if it is OK to tell a woman what to do with her body, why is it not OK to mandate a vaccine in order to work?

There is an inherent disagreement in the current discussions.

Why is that?

Frame the case as the fetus being a person

That's always been the pro-life argument.

@#14 ... That's always been the pro-life argument. ...

More so recently.

The strategy seemed to have changed from women's rights to when does the fetus become a person.

I posted this article a couple three days ago...

Supreme Court could redefine when a fetus becomes a person, upholding abortion limits while preserving the privacy right under Roe v. Wade

This argument makes every woman guilty of kidnapping.

Which is fine with the pro-birth movement.

"Woman" and "guilty" are front and center in the ideology.

If your guru tells you that a single cell should be treated the same as a human being, and you want to live your life that way, I don't see any problem with that. Your body, your choice. But you should not be able to make other people follow your religion.

Funny how it wasnt partisan when RvW was created.

Now that limits are trying to be put on it, it's partisan.

Funny how that be.

Funny how rigging a court to represent 20% of the country has that effect.

Frame the case as the fetus being a person

The 14th is explicit: born or naturalized. No birth, no citizenship, no rights.
You can't claim a fetus as a credit on your income taxes.
The fetus isn't entitled to due process.
The fetus isn't a US Citizen.
This is why the GOP wanted to extend (genuinely stupid, stupid idea) citizenship to conception. If they did, then people visiting the United States that conceive in the US, that blastocyst or fetus would be a US Citizen.

It'd be hilarious watching all their heads explode by implementing that change.

Alito was so full of ---- with that line of questioning, too. He showed he had no idea what the US Constitution says, or he doesn't care because his agenda overrides all precedence and all law.

They lost all rights to any measure of credibility in calling themselves "pro-life" when they chose not to get vaccinated, kill off hundreds of thousands people because a misguided toddler's understanding of "freedumbn and libeerty" is way, way more important than life.

I am all for abortions, but to equate this with vaccine mandates is hilariously weak and you are on thin ice, best walk away.

A "fetus" is a parasite much like the virus, people should be able to choose how and what goes into their bodies.

Conception tourism. Wow. Some guys and artificial inseminations clinics could make a lot of money of that idea should it become law.

You do realize that in nearly 50 years, with all the medical advances we've made, viability is still 24 weeks? Occasional outliers setting new records for premature birth survival haven't changed the statistical probabilities of survival. It's still about 5% for babies born at 23 weeks, with a 98% chance of substantial complications and/or disability. That's "following the science".

Funny how leftwingers never have to pose as insane right wingers, but it's a regular occurrance for rightwingers to pose as extreme lefties. Is that because the left isn't actually as you need everyone to think, so you have to create a fake left to terrify people into voting for your fascist cult?
